Bad service, rip-off
I am of indian origin and this very sweet indian lady call me and said I could call to india for one cent per minute but there would be a .39 cent charge per call. There was also a deposit required of $39.00 which I would get back if I should cancel.
I thought I would give it a try. The plan is great if you talk a long time at a time but I found it did not suit me. I called to cancel the service. The connection to the company is so terrible. The answering service is so broken up and the connection is terrible. But anyway I got thru and explained to the gentleman I wanted to cancel my service and I would like my deposit back.
He said they do not give the deposit back but the can give me call card for $50.00. I said that I did not want a calling card, I wanted my cash back. He said that is their policy and nothing he could do. The calling card is the most inconvenient thing to use. I can't tell you how many numbers you have to dial
I am writing this complaint to warn people. If you want really poor service and people who lie this is the company for you.

IT IS A BIG FRAUD... STAY AWAY
We singed up with Union Telecom to call Pakistan for 5.6 cent/min. When we got the bill they charged us twice for each call + tax. At the time of sign up they mentioned there will be no connection fee and no tax. You pay just for the minutes you talk.
We had big argument and they never admitted and kept charging our credit card without our permission. When we called customer service about 9:00 pm CT to talk to their supervisor, we were told that supervisor is in meeting and will call us back... but we never received their call.

Very misleading marketting
I kept getting annoying calls from this company for purchasing their services. I was told that the service to call India is only 1c/min. Obviously I hung up first few times, but then as I heard the offer. He mentioned that it was only 1c/min and it was that easy. The salesperson also said that they will give me 100 minutes each month for free for three months.I started listening, he then explained that there is some 39c - clear connection charge (or something similar). Then he convinced me that if I spent over 10 minutes on each call, then it will be worth it. Then came the time as he mentioned that there is a deposit which is refundable. Make a long story short, I got their service.
For the first month, I used under 40 minutes and I still got the bill. When I called them, after much struggle they said they will adjust the bill and deduct $1 from my bill because 100 minutes translated to 1$. Obviously deduction was applied before all kinds of taxes. So I still had to pay about $3 bill.
For the second month, same thing. I called again and then I again got some credit.
For third month, same thing. I called again and wanted them to cancel my service. They said I have to wait another month of no activity before cancelling the service !
So now six months later, I called them to cancel my service. Ofcourse it took forever to dodge the question "What can I do to keep you as customer?". Finally when I asked for my deposit back, I was told that I have to be a customer for over 12 months to get my deposit back. I strongly remember, I was not told about this company policy when THAT ANNOYING SALESPERSON was trying to sell me services. When I spoke to the customer service rep's manager, Mr. Manager told me that they never refund money. They only give calling cards in refund. Anyways, in my case, I did not get my DEPOSIT BACK.
So after receiving 15 or so annoying telemarketting calls, three months of wrong bills, a lot of heart burn, I lost my deposit too. I am glad the chapter is now over! I never write any feedback about any company, but this time I thought it was time that others should know about such fraud. I hope someone reads this and learns from it.

Changing contract/ rules
There is a new telecom company called Union Telecom which started telemarketting its international calling services in July 2007. At the time of opening new accounts they took about $40 as a refundable security deposit with no lock-in period. Somewhere down the line, they quietly kept changing rules adding fine-print after fine-print to the monthly billing statements. Now when I want to cancel the account and get my deposit back, I am told that I need to be member for at least a year and then only deposit will be paid back in the form of their company's calling card. I also suspect they jump the call durations artificially to overcharge the customers. The customer service of this company is so poor you will find it hard to talk to a human first and then that specialist will be so dumb you will feel exasperated and give up looking for redressal of your problem.
STAY AWAY from UNION TELECOM. It is not a company of thugs.

Dissatisfied Customer

Fradulent Billing
I was a customer of Union Telecom and when I closed my account with them, I was not refunded my deposit of $39.95 back. When I asked for the deposit back REPEATEDLY --- after two months, I was promised a credit of $50 towards the future phone calls at 3.9c per minute.
Well - I had no option but to accept it. The phone calls worked well for some time. Then on week-ends they stopped working. I could not call from my VOiP phone (it kept on saying Pin is invalid) and had to use my cell phone to call. Well - I thought at least I am able to call form my cell phone. I was tracking (approximately) the minutes I have used throgh the number. Some time later, when I tried to call -- it said I do not have sufficient funds.
I was very much surprised to find this as I know I hadn't fully used up my credit. My calls had always been short. I called UT and asked to get the statement of phone calls I have made and proof that I had indeed used up all my minutes. They refused. Customer Service person Mr. Fidel Nunec hang up phone on me after just saying I have used up all minutes.
Union Telecom is a big fraud ... stay away from them .. they do not fulfill what they promise ... they overcharge you and they do not have any right to stay in Telecom Business.
- A Totally dissatisfied customer.

Hate Frauds

Fraud Company
Union Telecom is a total fraud company. Stay away from them. I wish I had typed 'Union Telecom Fraud' in google before I signed up with them. I couldn't believe how many complaints are already there against this company.
They told me there is a $39 deposit for using their service which will be refunded whenever I cancelled my account. First they charged me that fee twice. After much hassle I got them to refund it once. Then I gave their service an honest try which turned out to be a piece of garbage. Bad connections, connection drops, noise on line; basically their service is nothing but rubbish and it is unusable.
When I finally called them to cancel my service and requested refund of my deposit, they said it was a sign up fee and is non refundable. From what I have learned later on, using Google, I got off cheap and with much less hassle then other people have gone through.
Union Telecom is an Indian run company. I'd stay the hell away from all businesses run by Indians from now on.

Bill cheating
A telemarketting guy contacting me and offerring 0.03 cents to call India. I accepted their service.
I found out from their billing it was totally wrong. Number calls, number of minutes everything was wrong. I requested them to correct the billing they agreed first month they did. But all the subsequent billing also they doing same thing. I finally told to them to cancel my account, but they do not do that. I stopped using their service. They still sending the bills every month with added amounts.
I dont know how to deal with this company, please advise.
