nonpayment of claim
On approx. May 16, 2009, my vehicle was stolen from my apartment complex. The person that stole the car took the keys from my apartment door that were mistakenly left in the door while I was bringing in bags and my son. I immediately filed a police report and contacted uaic to make a claim ( claim # 0500000188). I did not hear from the insurance company until the investigator recovered the vehicle in another city a week later. The adjuster, Frank Gonzallez (check spelling for last name) called and said the vehicle has been recovered and the police said there were no damages. I picked up my vehicle from the police station and it had approximately 4, 800 dollars worth of damages. This was an estimate that I got from a body shop. When I called him to report the damages, he stated he would have to send an adjuster. The adjuster came three weeks later to look for damages. It took him one week to prepare the paperwork. His estimate of damages was approx. 4, 200 dollars before the deductible. After preparing the paperwork, He emailed it to Frank. Frank stated since there was no "forced entry", He had to send out an investigator to record my statement in person. It took the investigator another three weeks to contact me. He contacted me on a Thursday and said he would be coming to my appartment Friday morning at 10 am to get a recorded statement. Friday I called him from 10:30 until 12. He did not answer. I called him with a blocked number and he answered stating that he was behind on his appointments and that he would go to his office and do it on the phone. He called me at approx. 2 o'clock and asked me sterotype questions such as are you on food stamps? Am I on any kind of public assistance? Did I sell my car for drugs? How much is my rent and light bills? Where do I work? What all bills do I have to pay? Did I pay someone to steal my car? Do you live alone? The interview lasted about 45 minutes. He then contacted the people who serviced the car and the dealer to find out if there were any damages to the car. The investigator approved the claim and emailed it to Frank Gonzallez (the adjuster). I called Frank that Wednesday to ask him about the status of the claim. He told me the last person who had to approve it was Terry O'Donnel (claim manager). Terry stated that he had to have the people name that stole the car, police reports, and what is being done by the investigating officer on the case, not to mention that we needed to press charges against the people who stole the car. When picking up the reports, we talked to the investigating officer who instructed us that the three individuals who were arrested with the car were minors who had a long list of illegal actions. They were already prosecuted and been to court for stolen goods. They are now on probation and were sentenced to restitution. Now that we have paid for the police reports and faxed them to him, he is not answering his phone or returning my phone calls. I am getting very frustrated with this whole ordeal and I am getting ready to get an attorney to sue uaic. I am also going to report this to insurance commissioners office and Better Business Bureau . I would not advise this insurance company to insure my childs bicycle. This is the worst company and everyone that works for this company have a terrible attitude and are very unprofessional. I hope this helps someone to make a better decision than I made about choosing a good insurance company. I am now with Geico and still fighting for my check.
