Scam
From personal experience, I would not buy anything from United Circulation LLC. The sales pitch was pure fiction. The receipt was designed for failure with "scary" language about canceling within 3 days by mail and they don't exclude weekends and holidays.
They also say they cash the check right away, so to try and get back $50 or $60 from another state is not worth the costs. My belief is that they count on this. The other side of the coin is that they are smart people in this game. They are not going to come back to your town and try to collect fees for a stop payment on a check, because they would not put themselves in a position to show up in court to sue over $30. That would be dangerous for them to try.

Paid $56.00 cash for Backpacker & Readers Digest large print magazines @ $28.00 each August 1, 2010 to ID #1050. Ticket # b41117 . Contacted magazines & they had no record. I have no magazines. Is there any way to get my money back or the magazines?

Fraud
A nice young man came to my door selling magazines for a trip to Europe, said he was our narighbors son from the street behind us. He said that his dad told him to offer to wash cars, his mom said people need another magazine like they need another hole in their head. So his mom came up with the bright idea to have all buyers donate their magazine to a soldier in Iraq. Well that there just sold me, how could I say no to that. For some reason I had a weird feeling about this and searched the internet and saw these other posts and have now figured out that I've been had as well. I searched for a phone number to call United Circulation, I have tried and tried and NO ONE answers the number. Live and learn, I will not purchase anything at the door again!!!

Magazine subscription fraud
A nice dressed young lady came to our door last evening selling magazine subscriptions to help fund her softball team's trip overseas. She'd already been to several of our neighbors and had quite a stack of checks in her envelope, so she was obviously convincing! She was very personable and very fast talking, and seemed to know people in the neighborhood, and said she lived on a nearby street. She told us that she only needed to sell two more subscriptions to meet her quota, and wanted us to buy two magazines for a total of $42. She said that most of the neighbors didn't actually want the magazines, and so they were going to be sent to her sister in Iraq. She said that because of this, she would be doing community service projects for the neighbors as a thank you.
I told her I would buy just one subscription, gave her a check, and she gave us a receipt for our "purchase." However, the receipt lacked information about where the magazine should be sent.
Afterwards I checked online and found numerous websites listing complaints about this so-called fundraising company, and most of the stories seem to follow the exact same script this young lady was using.

Fraud
A young man Came to our door using the name Nate Wing he said he was our new neighbor from a few houses down and that he was selling magazine subscriptions to pay for a school trip to learn about broadcast journalism. I asked him what's your moms name and he said Tammy, my wife was in the other room and she overheard the conversation. My wife said I just met the neighbor yesterday and her name is Karen, he said oh thats my aunt we are living with her for awhile. He acted very strange the whole time. I agreed to buy a subscription from him for $42 which seemed like alot but it was for charity. He told me if I didn't want the magazine and just wanted to donate the money. He was sending the magazines to his brother over in Iraq who was a winner of the Purple Heart.
It took about 5 minutes after he left to realize that I was ripped off, I went up the street and asked Karen if she knew Nate Wing she said no I've never heard of him, and that she lived alone not with a sister.
I looked at the receipt and It said that the salesman is an independent contractor
and that the company is not affiliated with students, schools, fundraisers or charities.
This is one of the businesses that you see advertised on the side of the road "make $500/week"
after googling what happened to me I saw other people where scammed with the same script that was used on me
I found him later today and got my check back just as an old lady was writing him a check. I told him if you want to sell magazine subscriptions thats fine but don't tell me your my new neighbor, and that its a school fundraiser and your brother won the purple heart.
