I was told i needed a passport for a cruise july/07, purchased birth certificate, picture, completed application paid and turned in to post office in frankfort ky 40601 march 29, 2007 three months before my trip. By mid april i was told that passport was not needed for my trip however was never told by post office and that i would not have my passport by july 1 due to delays with us government. My trip was a family reunion and everyone filed for a passport although it was not needed. By august i spoke w/ all 20 of my family members that joined me in my cruise to find out that they all had received their passports, some even before the trip but all by the end of july. I never received anything!!! By mail as the post office said i should. In fact i called the passport office 08/22/07 to be informed that my passport was at the post office on or about 08/06/07... Yet still no passport (mind you this is six months later). Passport customer service told me to contact post office and post office told me to contact passport office because they could not locate the passport at all giving me the run around. I called the post office again at first of september and was told they would look into and get back to me, never heard from them again!!!!today 10/03/07 i went to post office and was told nothing they can do at this point i need to contact passport office again!!! Called passport office they tell me i need to complete a ds-11 form for lost passport that i need to obtain from the post office!!! What the hell, why didn't the post office employee tell me this!!! Called passport office again (still 10/03/07) was told ds-11 form is not the correct form i need to complete ds-80(something form) that i have to get at the post office and that i have to request another passport with another picture and another birth certificate to get the original passport that i paid $$$$$$105.00 on march 29. The us government has my money and has no idea where they sent my passport and god knows what other pertinent confidential information about me. Identity theft is a big issue this day in age and this type of treatment is not and will not be tolerated as a united states citizen who pays taxes!!! I have been told that there is no way for me to get my money back or any compensation for the terrible service i have received. It has now been seven months and it is up to me to retain my passport and i will if it is the last thing i do!!!
