Scam
When a sales person came to my door and told me about this so called deal he had for me it sounded good at first, but then when I got my first bill I couldnt believe my eyes. My bill was so high I couldnt afford to pay it and had to call around to get help in paying it. the bad thing is its a 5year contract and they didnt save me any money at all, please beware of this company and all people that work for them because they will put the shaft to you it aint worth it.

They are very evasive. I was promised a great saving on my gas bill, yet it went up 30.00 a month. Do you know if any one has started a class action law suit? If so please let me know. [email protected]

My boss owns a small business in Michigan and got scammed by Universal Gas and Electric. Does anyone know of a class action lawsuit?

Scam
I just wanted to make my complaint known to everyone about universal gas and electric. It is true, they are a scam and do not sign up with them for any reason. They supposedly supply the gas for Consumers Energy. They will tell you that their main purpose is to lock in your gas rate so that you will not be charged a higher rate in the future. Do not trust this though. The worst part for me was when I kept repusing to pay their stupid contract termination fee, they handed me over to a collection agency called collect corp (main location in canada). I fought both the collection agency and universal gas and electric, until they finally decided to terminate my contract officially and they stopped bothering me. How did I do this? It took some research on collection agencies, and knowing my rights. I began complaining to the better business bureau and anlso the federal trade commissions. I learned about my FDCPA rights and the fact that I was being violated because the collection agency would continue to call everyday. After about a month of going through much hassle and complaints about both companies, the better business bureau finally send me a letter indicating that universal gas and electric had responded to my complaints and agreed to terminate my contract and not try to charge me the $250 fee any longer. Believe me, it was well worth it to do this research and fight them on all their claims to collect a termination fee. I wish I would have done research on this company before I signed up with them, but thats how I learned.

my bill
I have been trying to get off of their program since June 2007, I was told to send in a letter and the copies of my id, medical card and my bridge card to show that I was low income. I have called 4 times since then and they have not yet took me off now they have lost my stuff and says that the time has past and there is nothing that they can do but make me pay $250 (which I cant afford either)to cancel. I cant afford to continue to pay this bill because I only make $800.00-$1000.00 per month. It is killing me I need help.

Rip Off - Not cheaper - Lies - Stuck for 5 Years
Door to door sapes person comes to your house, says sign form and we'll lock in your max price of what you gas could go up to. Said will be cheaper than consumers. What they do not tell you is your stuck with them for 5 years (or pay them $250 dollars to get out). They end up charging more than consumers every time. that are 100% scam. Should be put out of business and sued.

Scam and rip off!
I am writing to inform and complain. I was mislead into signing with Universal Gas and Electric also and had nothing but trouble canceling. I was lied to, hung up on, transferred to ever ringing numbers. Finally after trying to fight them alone I gave in and sent the $250 money order and also letter of complaint. I was transferred to the Customer Relations dept to speak with the same woman for weeks who helped delay my cancellation. This companies salespeople were trained to deceive people into signing their contracts. Then they say they will cancel you if before 30 days for free. You wont receive your first bill for 60 days. Then they will transfer you around trying to say you cannot cancel and to call back next week etc. Finally you are told to write a letter of complaint along with a $250 money order.(There is no other way to cancel.) Then it will be sent to their Southfield office. There it will sit in a box until its full enough for the secretary there to send it to Ontario where Universals main office is located. On top of that you are told that it may take 2-3 billing cycles to complete cancellation. They are a predatory and unhelpful business purposely trying to scam 100's of people. Anyone who would like to help me try to start a class action lawsuit is welcome to email or fax me thier complaints. I will try to start a petition and also research the company further. I would advise anyone who feels they have been scammed as well to send a complaint to the Michigan Public Service Commission and also Michigan Attorney Generals Office. Any government agency that has anything to do with utilities. This company needs to be stopped and I know I want to be reimbursed. Fraud and rip off!
In Nov. A very deceptive representative came to my home claiming to be someone lobbying the utilities to keep rates low. This very young woman told me that she needed one of my old bills cause they were taking everyones bills to the utilities to keep rates down. Funny thing is I saw these people on the news and never in a million years thought I would fall prey to that, but low and behold, I was dead wrong. When I called customer service to cancel, they informed me that I would have to mail them a letter with a check for 250.00, the apparent cost of them scamming me. I am not paying this. I was appalled when I got my bill and immediately called them and faxed consumers to stop them from making anymore payments to them. On the news report on them, they were caught on camera lying to people. This is an outrage, and they should be put out of business immediately. The condescending woman, Maazia, told me it was in my contract that I signed and I had 30 days to cancel. Well, thinking these were some do gooders, I glanced briefly at the brochure, and I don't even know where it is. The woman who came to my home told me nothing at all would change with my giving her a bill, it was solely for the good of all consumers. I want this canceled immediately, and I am not giving them a penny more.

Request 250.00 after i moved!
I received a bill for 250.00 after moving, because they say i signed a five year contract. I am on soc. sec. and disabled they are scamming the public and making what is a very hard time even harder. I have no intention of being taken by these scam artist. I listened to your report on this company and I would like to join any class action suit. Also i would like the several hundreds they scammed from me in over a year.
