University Club Townhomes' no-hassle move out fee is a total SCAM.
They tell you there is some fabulous fee that you can pay when you sign your lease which covers after-move-out cleaning. It sounds good that when you leave you will not have to do a deep cleaning to carpet or re-paint your walls. It is $175. The girl that showed us around marketed it as a great plan if you want to paint your walls but don't want to worry about a thing when you vacate. After I moved out though, and still saw charges for the walls being repainted (and for some stain on the supposedly steamed carpet, and more) they told me that the fee only covers 1 wipe-down, 1 steam clean of carpet, and 1 coat of paint. But...
THIS IS SO SCAMMY (Actual text from the no-hassle move out agreement): “If we have to paint your unit with more than one coat of paint, you will be charged…Note that we use one coat of white paint; if your walls are any color other than white, one coat will not suffice.”
Soooooo...you ask me to pay $175 to have my walls re-painted for me...but only if I paint them WHITE in the first place!?!?! What the fuck? They are already white! By the way, I didn't paint my room some crazy color. I painted it light yellow (picture included). Basically this means that absolutely no color under the sun except white will be covered by this "no-hassle" plan. So, you pay $175 for some jerk to take a wet rag to your walls, for them to clean your carpet but then still charge you $25 to deep clean some random stain Ive never seen before (pictures included), and paint the walls the same color as they always were. WOW.
Not only this, but look, I barely lived in this place. I ended up not really needing this apartment too often because of my living situation so I was rarely there. Yet there were all these weird charges. I've never seen the carpet stain before. Or these broken blinds they referred to next...
I was pissed about the move-out fee thing, but I think this might be worse, just because it's motherf*$ing crazy: One of the charges was for 2 blinds that they had to replace in the common area (that three other roommates used too). It's $30 per blind. NOT a SET of blinds. ONE BLIND. This means the total charge was $60, divided among all roommates, so I was charged $15. If you think someone charging you MORE for ONE blind than it costs to buy a whole new set at Walmart is ridiculous, then take a look at the picture of the "damage" these 2 $60 blinds caused.
All in all, I was charged $11 total, the other charges having come off my security deposit. Isn't it suspicious that a BARELY used unit incurs charges that are almost EXACTLY the same amount as the deposit? They are trying to keep your money at all costs, and they will do anything--including charging you $60 for two blinds and $175 for a fake-out wipe down--to do it.
