Financial Aid Rip-Off
When I enrolled at the University of Phoenix back in August of 2005, I then thoufh that it was the right college for me since I was working full time. Situations started to get shaky about a year later when I started receiving bills from the school. I let my financial aid advisor Betty Hamm know why was I receiving statements. She then told me that I didn't apply for my fianacial aid in time in which I did which was in April 2006 a week before the deadline. Mrs. Hamm said the she would look into it. A month had almost past and she then stated that I had to start paying on the bill out of my pocket. I was wondering on why and how I had to pay for this when financial aid is supposed to be taking care of it. She explained to me that I had to start paying for it in order to get more financial aid. I think that wasn't fair at all for me especially since I didn't make much at my job.

Rip off
My experience with UOP staff also was lackluster and I agree that student services, or should I say, customer service is not a real UOP priority. No process transparency exists or is intended for UOP students. I suspect that each student is told something different by the various admissions, academic, and financial aid counselors, so please make sure that you document each discussion and transaction with UOP staff and instructors. Many more UOP students are documenting their experiences.
If UOP employees are unwilling to comment or respond to a student's written request for process or policy verification, then the UOP employee may not be imparting accurate information. Academic counselors provide inconsistent information, and to protect their management and their jobs, they feign ignorance. Magically, they only know their supervisor's or manager's name and all other UOP administrative or faculty names escape them.
While I found some adequate course content, many UOP students were poorly prepared to deal with this content. Learning teams were disappointing at best and provided the clearest view of student's lack of knowledge, interest, and preparation. Students felt entitled to go through the motions and were closed-minded about any activity out of the routine. Some students commented that the class content and assignments were not what the admissions counselors promised, or were shocked that instructors had different requirements for each class.
Some UOP students boast of high grade point averages, but perhaps students should be required to take and pass a federally approved college exit exam. UOP is offering an adequate education only to those who aspire to learn at a collegiate level, while the other students are going through the motions and get rewarded because they paid the tuition.
I also would like to see the statistics on graduation rates and GPA distributions by UOP course offerings for the past decade. Instructors had very low expectation of student performance and often praised and accepted mediocre or substandard work. The instructors' motto appears to be that if a student makes minimal effort then the student will make an 'A'.
UOP's overall process is shameful, because they could offer so much more to education consumers. I guess that for so little effort and so much profit, form over substance is inevitable.

Fraud and scam
I have been a constant reporter concerning The University of Phoenix. I read one report from a woman that was told she had to pay for a class she had to drop. So did I. She was put in touch with the financial counselor that I tried to get in touch with in May, 2007 and I, too, was told she was on. At University of Phoenix that is a code word for 'too busy duping another potential student.' I was told by an adviser that the financial counselor had sent me e-mails but that Yahoo.com was notorious about putting the UOP e-mails in junk mail. UOP has an answer for everything but where the money disappears to when loans are suddenly and mysteriously used.
I, also, had a promise that my ADHD would be taken into consideration and a disability counselor provided. Not only did he lose all my paper work, he said that my doctor had not faxed him the necessary papers. My doctor had.., I was standing there. How many of us out there are being scammed? After reading many of the comments on this website, I have learned not to believe anyone when it comes to money.
I will fight the UOP. I will notify the DOE. Silly as I am to believe that to loan money to students, an investigation had to be done of the UOP.

Terrible experience
I was a student of University of Phoenix. It began when I was pressured to sign up, instead of just calling for information as I first intended. I should have never signed up for this school. When I wanted to leave the school because I felt that I wasn't learning anything, they dared to fine me over a thousand dollars for classes I only took for a couple of weeks. Now they're threatening to turn over that amount, which takes me at least two months to save up due to a set budget(I live by myself), to their corporate collections office. Why would any legit campus have a collections office? And why aren't they being honest about my money?
I mean that I had 1100 dollars saved up for my Boston trip later this year, but I sent it in cash (In a panic) because of a threatening letter they sent me, threatening to turn my money over to collections. I got a harassing phone call at work from the school (Namely a 'Lynn') threatening to turn over my account in 72 hours. I kept telling them that I sent the money last month and there is no way that I owed them anything.
I'm suspecting that someone stole my money, but I doubt that anyone will actually confess to it. Although they claim that they would fire someone who did that, I don't think they would. I'm greatly upset and worried about my credit. I'm even more worried that they will continue to harass me.
They stole my money and lied about me not paying them. This I am certain of.

Bad experience
This school is charging money for a diploma, not for teaching; I want a refund and an entity that would make them do the job they ought to do instead of just taking the money from people with the promise of a piece of paper.
For people that don't care about learning this its the ultimate dream; but I want to learn, I want to know, I want good service and help, guidance, be able to remember and talk about it in a nice professional environment.
University of Phoenix have not idea of any of this and they took my money.
Even the Department of education is unable to do anything...
If anybody have this kind of experience with this university, please contact me, I need more people to take this to court.

Fraud and scam
On May 2, 2008 I was advised by UOP headquarters in Arizona that if I wanted to make a request for my student file to be investigated for inappropriate viewing that I was to contact the person(s) manager of whom I felt viewed my file. So I did but the Manager named CS, informed the employee of my request and the reason. The employee was advised by Ms. S to file a restraining order for harassment against me. Well on May 5, 2008 the employee went to court and filed a temporary order with a court date of May 27, 2008 which the judge did not do. He order a 'Mutual Non-Clets Restraining Order' meaning I had one against her as well because of her harassment to me while at work at the University of Phoenix Gardena CA campus. She sent me 6 emails cursing me out from 12pm to 6:30pm and phone calls with threats as well all while at work!!! I did inform her boss and headquarters however, the employee is still there to this day as an Academics Counselor giving academic guidance to students. Go figure??
The problem is, I asked Ms. S via telephone and via email to investigate my student file. In the email, I copied Ms. S's direct boss and the Manager of Academics located in Arizona. I am sad to say to this very day 2 months later I have not received a phone call, email, letter or anything acknowledging my request for this investigation. I am assuming Ms. S feels that because the employee took me to court that the matter was resolved... well it is not. I am now in the process of contacting the United States Board of Education being that UOP is a private college for them to file a formal complaint and investigation. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB as well.

Not returning Financial Aid dispersed to them
My husband and I attend 1 class at the University of Phoenix online program. We filled out financial aid and they received dispersments in the amount of $14, 000 on April 10th. My husband decided schooling did not fit into his schedule at this time because of the demands and withdrew from the program. I was unsatisfied with their MBA program so I transfered over to Kaplan University. The University of Phoenix not only received my husbands and my financial aid. Not only did they NOT apply our dispersements to our bill, they have put us into collections, and they will not talk to me about returning the funds to the lender. I have called several times asking them when they will be returning the funds, which they have to legally return them to the lender within 30 days, but they hang up on me. So, they have our money, they won't send it back to the lender, and they have put us into collections.

Fraud and scam!
I took one class from UOP, then had to withdraw due to my job. I was putting in way to many hours at work to handle even one class. I was asked to rejoin by one their representatives 6 months later. I tried again, but due to my project load I had to withdraw. UOP did all of the financing for the classes.
In the end, they said I owed 376 dollars, and I had 4k in loans. I said there was no way. I protested this amount since day one. I called them on several occasions about the balance, and they said it was correct. I protested this through the credit bureau numerous times. They ended up charging off the balance, and making my credit even worse than it was.
I admit I didn't have perfect credit, but this probably cost me thousands in interest. Not only that, but I was paying interest on the full amount they received from the government. After 3 years of payments, they sent back 2419 dollars to the government saying that there was a mistake they found during an audit.
When I contacted UOP about this, they said that I was lucky they even did an audit, and I was still responsible for the interest since I was still enrolled. I said I withdrew, and haven't taken a class in over 3 years. The bean counter said I still had a web page.
I said so that entitles you to keep money that isn't yours, and he replied well in fact it does. I said so there is nothing you are going to do, and he replied no we do not have to, and by the way you still owe us 276 dollars? What do I do? I doubt hiring a lawyer would be cost effective.

Scam and cheating!
You can pick up an Official Withdrawl Form at axiafaw.phoenix.edu, you must be enrolled to get this form. Trust me, no one wants you to find it and you will search and ask over and over again before someone gives you the link! If you are like me and you are in your first week and red flags are going off all over the place telling you to get the hell out of there... DO IT. I just paid $500+ dollars for eight days which consisted of about twenty emails to other students, four responses from BOTH my Instructors and six homework assignments!!! You will pay for each week you are in attendance that you do not get out! Get the form and fax it ASAP to the fax number your Financial Advisor gave you in their Welcome email. Follow up, cancel your loan agreements directly with the lender and DO NOT WAIT.
This is the biggest scam in the USA in my opinion. You will pay and pay and pay if you stay. The education is YOU teaching YOURSELF, and the Instructors don't answer your questions in a timely manner. In AXIA you will you will notice right off that many of the students (not all) cannot spell and know nothing about grammar. (Even the course material has misspellings and grammatical errors.) It is hard to believe that some of these people graduated from High School. I was an A Student in High School and I took a year of College at the Community College with a 4.0 GPA. There are no entrance requirements in AXIA and I was told by my enrollment counselor that those people are graded on IMPROVEMENT???
I called a top notch college and asked if their credits transfer in, I was told that they do because the school is Regionaly Acredited, but if you have taken classes that do not apply to another schools degree program... you are wasting your time and precious money. The truths IS you need a school that is NATIONALLY and Regionally and there is a difference. Even a very good school's Career Development Program will tell you that many employers DO NOT WANT UOP grads! Call around and ASK, I did! These enrollment counselors are slick and they are paid by their enrollment numbers. I refuse to even talk to my counselor because he is dogging me to stay! $520.00 for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
RUN RUN RUN WHILE YOU CAN. SOMETHING IS VERY VERY WRONG WITH THIS SCHOOL. I have spent an entire day trying to get someone to acknowledge that I am WITHDRAWN. And... DO NOT go to class and get logged in by the computer if you are wanting out, you will PAY for that too!
Tell everyone you know to stay away from this school!!! I am just trying to keep someone else from the same thing. They will delay and delay and delay in telling you where to get the form so you will have to pay more. Get out while you can.

Scam and cheating!
Today I am writing complaint the University of Phoenix want be advise to anyone about this school before you are enrolling with them. My big mistake I request information about this school online, I am full time working, I have no time for school so I decided take online class, so I went online and did not do any research about University of Phoenix, so I requested information. I live in Minnesota, one of counselor call me. His name MatthewSpoden, seem like he very nice guy, call me everyday at work, my cell, until I enrolled the class, so I enrolled online class, I go into online class room, any teacher told me or anyone has post message in the forum, honestly, I don't know what the heck are they teaching, I am Vietnamese and I am planing take AS Information Technology, hope when I finish the school I will have bright future, yeah right, I am so busy with working I did not have time post a message with not relate to what should I study, Mr. Matthew Spoden call me Monday, Tuesday of the first week, and tell me I have post message, day of third online class he did not call me, so a week has pass, I decide drop out cause if I continuous not work for me and I have no idea what are they teaching. Guess what, I received the bill for $524.00 only attend 1 week, also I received second statement $304.00, make me confuse, so I contact Financial Aid Office, all I got transfer me around enrollment office until I speak up I drop out the class not new student and the representative said. Oh!!! So could not get hold of the Financial Aid person, I don't paid the bill yet cause I request them copy of how much reward I have been approve for the FAFSA, they don't sent me nothing and planing put me on collection, so I received two page letter from Financial Aid Office and she said I must responsible for 25% tuition cost when I attended 1st week of the class and posted message in the class rom. So I totally understand now why the counselor nice call me posting message everyday for two of first day of the week . So my finally advise to anyone, before you are planning register this school, be careful and think twice before you do it, I research online and a lot people complaint with this school, here my advise:
READ THE SCHOOL POLICY BEFORE YOU ARE ENROLLMENT. ASK YOU COUNSELOR HOW MUCH YOU ARE APPROVE FOR THE FINANCIAL AID. THE BALANCE REMAINED THEY HAVE TO SEND BACK TO YOU.
ASK ABOUT CANCELLATION POLICY.
TAKE MORE TIME RESEARCH THE SCHOOL, ONLINE CLASS OR CAMPUS GOOD FOR YOU.
I DON'T THINK THIS SCHOOL WILL HELP OUT PEOPLE INSTEAD TRY TAKE MONEY FROM STUDENT.
BE CAREFUL UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX.
