DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL
If you are considering going here for the convienience of doing classes online, DO NOT GO HERE! Many universities offer online classes. This school is not only expensive but have the worst employees. Their academic and financial advisors are the worst! You can tell they all hate their job and don't give a crap about you and what you need to graduate! If I wasn't so close to being done, I would transfer!

Bad Practices
I attended a UoP campus from 2000 till 2002 and completed all of my Bachelor level requirements. I had three general education classes to complete before I could get my degree (two math (which I hate) and one science). For me, it was worth the expense to take the classes with UoP online because with two small children and subjects I had no interest in, it was too difficult to focus on one class at a time for 16 weeks each (I know because I’d already tried to take math twice from a community college; I withdrew both times).

We moved in 2002 and I wasn't able to complete my final three courses until May 2005. I received my diploma and a copy of my transcript from UoP in June. Because I'd had such an enjoyable experience with the school to that point, I decided to pursue my Master's in Teaching degree online. I enrolled in July 2005 and began classes in August. There was no tuition for my first class, so by the time I started the second, financing was in place.

In November my family planned a vacation to visit my mother-in-law who didn't have internet, so I was unable to complete the online work. I requested a leave of absence for one five-week course. The request was approved and I planned to return to class the first week of December. When I returned from vacation I checked my schedule so I could purchase the books I'd need and to check if there was advance work to complete. According to my schedule, I was to resume classes in January, not December. I shrugged it off, thinking the holiday may have affected it somehow.

In January, I checked again and discovered I'd been dis-enrolled. I received a letter from the college stating I was on an unapproved leave of absence and that I owed them $4700. When I asked why I owed so much, I was informed the funding for my Bachelor's degree had also been sent back. I explained to them my Bachelor and Masters degrees were separate and I'd already received my diploma and transcript for the Bachelors. They proceeded to advise me the financial policy is - in order for them to retain money from the bank, I have to complete 15 hours of study and I'd only done 14. Let me add my grades were excellent and reiterate the fact THEY extended my leave of absence, not me. I said I wanted to continue with my degree program and was told I couldn't until I paid the money. I wasn't working at the time, so I didn't have $4700 to throw them - if I did, I likely wouldn't have gotten the loans in the first place!

I wrote a letter to the President of UoP and his reply was the same - I had to pay the money NOW or the debt would be turned over to collection. Suffice it to say, it was turned over. I spoke with the collection agency and we worked out a payment plan - I send them $100 per month until I get a job and can send more, or the debt was paid. I sent a payment to them in March 2010 and it was sent back to my bank. I thought maybe I'd miscalculated my remaining balance and had paid the loan off, so I waited for a letter or some sort of acknowledgement from UoP or the collection agency. When nothing came, I called UoP to talk to my "Financial Advisor" to arrange final payment. I left him my IRN and phone number for him to return my call - which, naturally, he didn't. Instead, I got a letter a few days later from a DIFFERENT collection agency for $930 (which is right around what I thought I still owed). So now, the old collection agency is on my credit report – it’s scheduled to fall off in 2012 - and the new collection agency will be (I'm sure...I haven't checked) on my report. I've been so frustrated with UoP for the way they've handled my situation that I haven't even attempted to contact the new agency.

UoP is still holding my Bachelor's degree hostage - although with only $930 remaining on the account, it's obviously been paid for by now - so I'm unable to get official transcripts to show "proof" of my education. I attended UoP for two years and have paid over $20, 000 for my [now useless] degree. My fear is that when I do finally pay it off, they'll tell me my classes are obsolete and I'll have to take a few others to get "today's" BS/BM degree --- even though I already have my diploma.

Based on my first experience with UoP (2000-2002), I would have highly recommended the school to anyone who asked. Now, I think UoP should come with warning signs - maybe I should look for the fine print next time I see an, "I am a Phoenix" commercial on TV, they may already have them.

BOTTOM LINE: I do not recommend TODAY’S University of Phoenix.

Whatever you decide, be very careful in your research and take your time making the final decision to enroll. If you have any doubts, whatsoever, then you need to take a step back and try to uncover the reason(s) for them. This many complaints about one organization should definitely give you pause to wonder.

Unethical Business Practices
The University of Phoenix has lost their accredidation! Those would be the headlines that you would be reading today if I had anything to do with it. You've read the complaints on this site and other websites, essentially shady practices by the University of Phoenix. Yet the University of Phoenix is allowed to continue to conduct shady and unethical buisiness practices for one reason, the Department of Education allows it to happen. The Department of Education is as gulity as the University of Phoenix in that even after complaint after complaint to the Department of Education regarding the University of Phoenix, they sit idle. The Department of Education in this case has failed to protect the very people that they are here to serve and has failed in thier mission which is ensure that American's get what they pay for; a good quality education at a reasonable price. That unethical schools are not allowed to exist. The Department of Education is the University of Phoenix's best friend.

Lies of the teacher
I send up for 18 months course, everything was going great until 12 months. Every 9 weeks I would received two new teachers. The last 18 weeks I had one teacher from each 9 weeks, lies and refuse to help.If I don't past this last class I will have to quite school because I will not have the money to pay. I have turn these so call teacher in, but nothing will be done. In last 18 weeks I have found out that Phoenix is in trouble for raising student fees and going on a trip to Napa Valley in California. Using student funds. I will be looking for another college and I will reporting them to FASFA. I WHAT MY MONEY PAID BACK.

Scammers
I to went to this school. Rip off. went for 8mts in 2007. While atttending no1 called me only when it was time to get $. The academic advisor I had took 1mt. To get back with me. The enrollement counselors wait until you get through your 1st classes & u never hear from them again. They said they had a nursing program but my classes were on how to start your own business. Doing a business proposal church and math nothing to do with nursing. I called left emails and no answer. I dropped out then I get calls saying I owe. Now on my online account my first two classes were one price then it went up. But the classes were paid for. So I asked where was the rest of the money she said the left over monies will be returned to the lender but it was returned in loan form and now they going after me. They said that they were trying to get in contact with me but they didnt. The address they had was wrong and they took my taxes and say I owe 11, 000 how is that possible please help me I never recieved anything from these people before and now they took my taxes with no notice.

FINANCIAL FRAUD
University of Phoenix is not releasing my excess Pell Grant funds. They have ripped me off by not only making me take extra classes to complete a "new" degree program, after I was enrolled in a program they said was no longer available. Then while I was attending on "ground", I had to transfer to an online degree program. I have since discovered they are offering the original program. They made me take extra classes to complete the "new" program. I can not transfer my credits and I am one class away from graduating. They have told me over and over again that I would receive my excess Pell Grant funds. Now they say I was out of enrollment for 29 days, so they can't release the funds. I passed that class. They didn't bring this up until after I contacted them wondering where my money was. They are the worst college ever. Ripping off student in this economic resession should be a crime. DON'T EVER GO TO UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX. They are a scam of the worst sort.

Tuition Charge for Class Not Taken
Phoenix University is charging me for a class I did not take. Was told by financial ad-visor would receive partial credit for a class and now does not want to honor the credit.

wanted to go from online to campus for my accounting degree and was told by counselor would be better if I stayed online. Was told to stay online and major was changed and class drop. Was not told had to pay for class, now ready to graduate is been told I owe 1200 for the that my counselor dropped.

Need to pay or change graduation date to a later time so that I can get another loan to pay for this class.

Within the two years I have been in Phoenix online classes my financial ad-visor and couselor has been change 3-4 times and the each one has given me a different story from the other.

I do not understand if my financial ad-visor said I would no have to pay and sent in for credit it is going to be denied and I have to pay for a class I did not take and is no longer part of my major.

When I asked why this was not explained to me and why I was forced to stay online and change major when all I wanted to do was to change to ground campus. No answer said they apologize my counselor did not inform me of that. But they are not willing to give me the credit for the class all they want is more money.

Programs
Programs at University of Phoenix-For all of you people looking to get into the field of Criminal Justice, listen up. I’ve worked in the field of CJ for 22 years and I’ve been assigned all over. If you want to get a job in the field of CJ, then pull your head out of your ass and go to a traditional school with a reputation of offering CJ programs. In my Department, all sorts of traditional degreed individuals come in seeking employment in the field of CJ and the ones with the UoP degree’s get laughed at behind the doors. There’s no way an individual who graduated from UoP would ever be my partner or anyone else’s! A traditional school in CJ will offer the best instructors who’ve worked in the field of CJ as well as have the academia to back it up…I know this for a fact as I’ve taught at a major university as well as was a candidate for UoP to teach. If you don’t believe me, go to ANY law enforcement agency and find out for yourself. Oh, and those who rank UoP high are those who are either currently enrolled or have graduated from UoP.

UOP Financial Aid Fraud & Lack of Official Complaint Documentation/Determination
No this doesn't clarify, because it was still within the 10 years! Also, the denial letter for course waiver dated 1/21/10 was never sent to me, nor was that a letter sent to me regarding my complaint against Kelson's unethical accounting of my Ethics grade where she mistakenly posted information for week 2's assignment in week 3 - how it was determined that I was confused and not Kelson is still a mystery to me! The Ethics teacher of all people refused to admit or accept that she made a mistake, costing me 10 pts and lowering my 4.0 GPA. If the UOP doesn't believe in it's ability to teach and that the student is so confused that they can't locate an assignment, what will employers' think of my UOP degree? Despite providing proof positive that the assignment was posted incorrectly & the teacher was the one confused, not the student, UOP determined the student was confused, so confused they as of today some 6 mths after my complaint, I have yet to receive an official determination. I have yet to receive any documentation showing an investigation, or determination and that is cause for concern about the quality or lack of quality of my education.

Also, my financial aid total for Dec 2010 is $8995, not the $6960 showing on FA Acct, & usually pays for four classes at a time, but this time it maintained monies for five classes & refunded me only $295 - Pell $2775, Student Loan Sub $2737 & UnSub $3483. Considering the vast number of complaints UOP is facing regarding credibility, quality of eduction, & financial aid complaints, I am wondering if UOP is really on the up and up. Even the $295 refund shows on my UOP Acct was dated 12/21/10 & yet as of 1/4 it hasn't posted to bank acct. In fact, on 1/3/2011 it wasn't posted on my UOP Acct history. Previous awards maintain monies for four classes and the amount refunded should have been $2035.

I am really thinking this is unethical because the monies were disbursed & received by UOP in 2010, shows on my UOP Financial Aid account for 2010, yet as of 1/4/2011 haven't been disbursed to me. The account history shows UOP maintains monies for four classes in advance, yet for the 2010 final year's disbursement, UOP has maintained monies for five classes without advising me, as I was expecting and planning on the usual disbursement of $2035. This has placed me in a financial strain, which is frustrating and distracting me from my classes. I have worked very hard & currently have a 3.78 GPA that I have earned, yet I am wondering if my UOP education will garner me a degree that employers will accept. Therefore, I am filing a formal complaint with FSFA & UOP and would like an official reply in writing. There's some shady unethical things occuring at UOP & I need answers! What is going on?
