University of Phoenix Reviews

Very Non-responsive (Does anyone exist there?)
While attempting to transfer from one University of Phoenix location to another, I was told by 12 different employees of the University of Phoenix that Cara Willis (military transfer personnel) is the sole person who handles transfers of servicemembers. For months, I have not received a return phone call or email response from Ms. Willis. Does she even exist? Why can't anyone else handle the transfer?

Can't used Master degree to get a job NC State says not accredited
I have been applying for jobs since May of 2009, I have a masters in psychology from the universityof phoenix and every job in health and or human services is telling me they can not use my Master because UOP is not an accredited university in NC. There has to be something I can do because I spent long hours, time and a lot of money for this degree to be told it is useless. help me please.

Religious Discrimination
A lawsuit filed in October against the University of Phoenix for religious discrimination. Go to the 17th Judicial Circuit in Broward County Florida and search case# 10040467. This will tell you the truth about these people and this university!

Financial Matters
My name is Maya and I am complaining about the University of Phoenix/Axia College. I have been with the University of Phoenix/Axia College for one year and it was going great in the beginning. My grades were perfect and I had no problems until my last two courses which were Environmental Science and Cultural Diversity. I was told in my Environmental Science class to express how I felt about nature and not to mention my HONEST opinion, that's exactly what I gave and I was attacked by the instructor. That is just the beginning of my problems with UOP. In my Cultural Diversity class I was told off by one of the students who happen to be older but i did not sweat it. The student told me that I need to open up a African American history book. We were told in the beginning of the course to write a autobiography of ourselves and that is with every course you start at UOP. I am an African American and I found the remark to be very racial and prejudice. I also stated in one of my discussion questions that I was from a mixed ethnic background and I felt I was attacked for it. I recommend anyone who wants to go to this scandalous school read up on your facts first because if you do not do this they will leave you in the dark and drag you though the mud so please be careful. I am in the middle of a situation right at this very moment with UOP, they want a very hefty amount of money for classes that they failed me in and not to mention again they asked my HONEST opinion and I gave it. I should not be punished for my personal opinion especially since it was asked for. In my time at UOP, I have only heard from my adcademic, financial, and enrollment counselors a few times. They tell you to call and leave a message if they are not available but contrary to popular facts they do not call you back. it is the same process with emails they do not get back. So, once again I recommend for anyone who badly wants to go to online schooling or should I say distant learning make sure you read all of the complaints and all of the paperwork they send in the mail it will help you see how scimmish and scandalous they are.

selling tactics
I was thinking of University of Phoenix at one point. The man I was assigned to was either very ignorant as to what is really going on with the workplace or he was just flat out lying. I told the recruiter (I know it is called enrollment counselor or adviser but really, come on, they act like recruiters) that I wanted to work in health care. I said I would like to be a nurse later down the line but I understand that you have to go a traditional school setting to get those clinical hours and such.

Well, the recruiter just said, "Well, we have health care administration you could do that. Get a mix of administrative work (where I have experience) and the medical field." I said fine, just let me do my research on the field and I will get back to you. I went ahead looked on-line found out that in order to be successful in that career you need a bachelors degree or you just work as an administrative assistant without a degree at all get a decent pay check. It took me a couple of days to look at the whole picture and the recruiter just would not stop calling my house and leaving messages. He would sometimes call 3 times in one hour.

I told the recruiter what information I had found and then he started to get angry with me. He said, "Well, if you want to work a MINIMUM WAGE job and keep living the life you live then go ahead don't go to college. And just settle for LESS!" I explained to him that I would just really like to be a nurse later and this education was more of a filler. I have a house, a husband, a luxury car, dog, and child all by the age 22. I have what others go to college to just to get to that point. This is more to keep me from being bored during the day (I am a homemaker) so the nursing thing can wait. So I will wait.

Then he responded, "You said you got a 3.2 GPA in high school? Um, yeah not possible to be a nurse. You need a 3.7 or higher." I had done my research again not true. Minimum is 2.0 or in some cases 2.5GPA, if he had said, you need a 3.7 to increase your chances into getting into a nursing program that would have made more sense, but he did not. I called him out and presented the facts and he said, "Well what if you and your husband get a divorce? Then what? You will be stuck doing NOTHING with no EDUCATION with no JOB and a DIVORCED SINGLE WOMAN and regretting you didn't sign up for college!" Isn't that a tad out of line?

I responded back telling him that what he was saying was really unprofessional and quite frankly you can count me out of ever considering UOP. I took my email off their list for generic enrollment dates and he called me at 11pm to ask if I still wanted to enroll in UOP. Based on that incidence and I wasn't even a student, Iam forever greatful that UOP's and the recuriters true colors showed before it was too late.

Scam
I enrolled in UOP received a loan for 20, 000. I was informed that only half of my loan could be disbursed based upon credit hours. My 1st disbursement was (10, 000) 7, 000 was mailed to me and the school used 3, 000 to cover the cost for the class which I was enrolled in. UOP states that the other 10, 000 of the original (20, 000)loan was returned to the lender. I am now in repayment status repaying the loan, but have received several letters saying that I owed UOP 7, 600 in addition to paying the lender and if I do not pay UOP this will further damage my credit and prevent me from pursuing another school. Upon withdrawing from this school I had a 0 balance and all my fees were paid with loan funds. How do I defend myself knowing that this is a scam. I received a loan and I should be required to repay only the loan back not the school.

Enrollment/Dropping Classes
I had a and am having a bad experience with The University of Phoenix, that seems never to end. I enrolled in courses apx. 2 years ago; and had to drop the courses due to a serious illness. That's when the U of P run a round begun. Several of U of P advisors told me to "see how, it goes, give it another try" this before you drop courses, and stonewalled me into dropping my course in time to receive a full refund. And even in the final response letter to the incident. The University, notes: "He stated that his reason for withdrawing was "work responsibilities". I attempted to withdrawal from my classes, E-mailing and leaving voice mail message for my U of P financial advisor, with no answer, until he called me to put me in collections...

A WASTE OF MY TIME August 20, 2010
Not Disbursing Student Refunds Until You Complain for Months
I have been a student at the Universty of Phoenix for 5 year now and I regret ever getting involved with this organization. I have struggled to get the university to disburse my refund from my student loan and nobody seems to care. I repeatedly receive nasty letters threatening to remove me from the program if I do not pay my tuition bill, while the university sits on my student loans and refuses to release the funds to pay for the tuition bills. The university is attempting to force me to pay out of my pocket for tuition when the university received over $10, 000.00 for my student loan to pay for the classes, not to mention apporximately $3, 600.00 of that money is to be refunded to me. No matter who I speak with I am brushed off and told to wait for a phone call. Well, three months have passed and I am still being told to wait for a phone call. My next semester begins in 5 more weeks and the universoty is still refusing to release my student loans. Now my student loans periods have overlapped and I cannot remain in school.

Today I made a formal complaint with state, the DOE, Sallie Mae, and I am in the process of filing a complaint with the prosecuting attorneys office because the university is illegally keeping my money. I am working wioth an editor from a well known educational periodical that is dying to headline negative stories about online scam schools like the university of phoenix.

I have been openly lied to over and over again by not only my financial counselor, but his manager too. I spoke with a couple financial counselors from other universities that were willing to speak with me and after explaining the situation to each both responded the same way... they have never heard of disbursements taking that long, someone is not doing their job, and if that were happening at thier school somebody would be getting fired.

UoP...you will never ever ever see nay more student loan money from me...I am leaving your worthless fly by night school and going to a traditional university even it if takes an extra 3 years to complete my degree...I've learned my lesson.
