financial aid award package
I enrolled with the university of phoenix in july of this year and i did not begin classes because i hadn't received my financial aid award package. When i asked the university for this they said I was to get it from the department of educations so i called them and they told me this comes directly from the school i have asked numerous times for this and at this point i am yet to receive it, they wanted me to start classes even before i knew how much i was awarded and how it was going to be disbursed. Don't let them fool you the department of education told me not to ever start a class without knowing how much i was awarded and how the money was going to be disbursed.

Student Loan
I am Moises A. Brador, current student of The University of Phoenix IRN 9024424029. While going over my statement I found a discrepancy in my account of $747. But I have applied for student loans and I received all my loans and disbursements. So this balance should not be there.
During my enrollment at the university, my finance advisor, Chandra Persaud, called to tell me that a check of $895.00 was mistakenly mailed to me. I never received the check. She later telephoned me again which gave me the opportunity to explain that I had never received the check. When I still didn't have the check I called Chandra Persaud several times and did not receive an answer. I also went to see her in person and was told she would come and see me during one of my classes because she was occupied at the moment, she never came. I also emailed her several times about my account and the check and even emailed her my phone number so she could reach me at her convenience. I have yet to receive a reply from her.
Upon further review of my account I realized that a class has been charged twice. I have also emailed Chandra about this several times and have received no reply. My account balance was zero when suddenly the balance of $747 appeared. I have noticed that the last item charged on my account was a class I took in December of 2009, this class was already charged and has been paid for. Also, since December of 2009 I have taken three classes which should be the last things that are posted to my account. I have received all my student loans, and disbursements which gives me cause to believe that the University is trying to take advantage of me in a scam.
I am very frustrated with the situation and I will file a complaint against your institution with the university board, and who ever else I have to. I have tired time and time again to resolve the problem and I have received no cooperation from the university staff. I am almost done with the program and in order to receive my diploma I need to have this situation cleared.
I want to clarify this before the program is over on August 11th, 2010.
Thank you!

Scam and not a good school
I have written and left messages since april, 2010 for several of the staff; Kenneth James Austin and Lynn. I have filed chapter 7 I have sent them my BK paperwork I have written letters faxed over my BK paperwork and now they place me collections. I receive "out of area" phone calls starting at 7:50am central time. This school is a scam.

Scam
I am also a victim of the scam of the university of phoenix on-line scam. i was told by my financial aid advisor of the university of phoenix that i would not be able to finish my course because i still owed them 3, 000.00 they said that a portion of the money will be returned to the department of education and that i would not be allowed to finish my last two classes unless i paid them three thousand dollars directly or made arrangements to pay them.this is a fraud and a scam. i will never agree to sign another promissory note for them to cheat the goverment oput of money. I would also like to be included in the lawsuit against them.

Misleading & Fraudulent Business Practices
If You have been wronged by University of Phoenix & ARE INTERESTED in Class Action Suit Against University of Phoenix then please contact me through this website.

Fraud - Misrepresentation - Theft, You Name it!

Who remembers the old ads about University of Phoenix claiming that all of their instructors were professionals in the their fields? Ever hear those commercials anymore? Not!

I went to Univ of phoenix in 2005-2006 but I left because of their bogus instructors, ridiculous eBook Textbooks and the fact that they just kept trying to get more and more money from me. I was supposedly on 100% financial aid however there just seemed to be something I had to pay "out of pocket" with every course. It got ridiculous. So I left and I went to Heald!

Now Fast forward 5 years and I've graduated from Heald and getting ready to move on to my BA when I meet with National University and they need my transcripts from UoP... No problem I think cuz I don't owe them a dime...WRONG!!

I go to UofP and process a request for my transcripts from within the student website - But... I get a message that they won't release my transcripts because of a "corporate hold" trying to steal more money from me.

I go to my lawyer who drafts a letter demanding that they release my transcripts, after he explained to me that holding college transcripts hostage and demanding payment from students who receive financial aid is not only against FERPA rules but also against the rules of Federal Financial Aid!!!

harassment
I was recently harassed by a mentally unstable student repeatedly and asked the instructor to deal with the situation. She said it wasn't her job. It was so bad that I lost sleep and was mentally stressed out because I had to work with this woman in an online learning team. She would fly off the handle at all of us in the team and accuse us of very surprising things. Finally, after the instructor telling me over and over that it wasn't her job, I went to my counselor and the DON who told me that the matter would be taken care of. Then a week later I was sent via UPS a "warning letter" of my misconduct toward the woman who was harassing me! I couldn't believe it and it wasn't true (I have all of the posts to prove it). The worst part it that the letter was signed the "Academic Issues" team and none of the people at this school will tell me who was on this team and how exactly they came to this decision. I was absolutely shocked so I felt entitled to answers. I told them that I was going to get an attorney if they didn't answer me because I felt it unfair to be anonymously disciplined without a signature or contact person. Now none of them will talk to me. Has anyone else experienced something like this? If so, I would like to file a class action lawsuit for harassing, unfair, and unethical behavior. I am halfway through the program and 20, 000 in debt and do not know if I can finish this program with no safeguards in place against online harassment. Please let me know at [email protected] Thank you.

Enrollments

Dear Ms. Gilbertson (Dawn Gilbertson is a reporter for the Arizona Republic, i.e. AzCentral.com. She can be contacted at [email protected]),
As I write this e-mail, I wanted to share a little bit of my background. I am a former employee and student at University of Phoenix. More recently, I worked at Anthem College Online. Today, I am working on my Ph.D. with Walden University. As a current student, former online student and employee, I am passionate about education and remain active in helping with efforts to clean up a filthy industry: online education.
I do believe in online education and its primary purpose. The concept of online education is honorable because of its ability to create access to educational opportunities for those with no other choices. The failure of online education occurred at the time when the stream of revenue became more important than the student’s education. As a result, University of Phoenix and other online institutions have become chastised for low quality programs, business practices, unethical conduct, and illegal activities. At some point, the Department of Education would need to take charge of the industry, examine its practices, and if needed, implement policies and procedures aimed at the online education industry. At this juncture, the Department of Education’s policies and procedures focus on traditional ground campus institutions. Therefore, these policies and procedures are ineffective in overseeing the online education industry.
Over the last year, I have filed two lawsuits against University of Phoenix: age discrimination and retaliation. In addition, I have reported University of Phoenix and Anthem College Online to its accrediting bodies and the Department of Education for unethical business practices and illegal enrollment activities such as document falsification. In addition, I have worked with the producers from the PBS program Frontline and interviewed by the New York periodical FRONTLINE. I am currently working with a Special Agent from the Department of Education currently investigating online education practices. I have also been active in helping and speaking with former students, employees, and educators from the institutions.
Phoenix is the capital of online education enrollment. How many online institutions are located in the valley? While reporting on the University of Phoenix, I want to list other institutions worth reporting on that reside here in the valley. Those institutions are as follows: Kaplan University, Ottawa University, Everest College, University of Phoenix, EDMC (Art Institute, Argosy University, South University, Brown-Mackie), Grand Canyon University, Western International University, and Anthem College Online. These are not the only schools actively seeking students in the valley too.
I applaud the reporting and updates on University of Phoenix; however, I hope that you are not engrossed with one institution. All the institutions I have listed use the University of Phoenix as a model. Therefore, these institutions are subject to using the same business practices that Apollo Group has been accused of in the past and present. I urge you to spread your focus on these institutions as well.
In conclusion, I want to inform you of another issue regarding an online institution. Anthem College Online has a sexual harassment lawsuit currently active with the EEOC. Since I have been interviewed by the EEOC, I know the specifics of the case. The EEOC has a very strong case with Anthem College Online sexual harassment charge. Perhaps, the EEOC has a stronger case against Anthem College Online than its previous cases with the University of Phoenix for enrollment practices and LDS favoritism. I think you have another story just waiting to be told. Here is the link to the EEOC site regarding the Anthem College Online sexual harassment case: http://www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/newsroom/release/10-5-09d.cfm
Good luck. If you need any further information, please feel free to contact me.

quality of product
online course for doctorate level does not meet even SC high school level standard. I am a high school teacher and took the introduction to their doctorate level course and I decided immediately that the product is not to par. When I informed them of my issue the customer service was aggressive. Rubrics are hard to understand with no detail. The teacher comments are too vague for learning. Teacher comments of discussion did not align with the class discussion thread. I took 2 courses in 2005 and it was not like that. This university is no longer institute of learning, but a cash cow.

Unethical and Fraudulent June 4, 2010
Shysters and Deceivers
I transferred from another college to the University of Phoenix with approximately 12/13 classes to go to get into their fast trak program to complete my degree. I was told by UoP that all my credit hours would transfer over. So I started the first class on May 11th, 2010. Well, my transcript had not been updated in their system before I began, but they assured me that everything would transfer over. On May 18th, I checked to see if my transcript had been rec'd and updated in their system. It had, but only 54 hours were transferred over. Rather than completing approximately 36/39 hours, I would be enrolled longer to complete at least 66 hours @ $12, 500 per 24 credit hours. This is the equivalent to a little less than 3 years. This would put me in financial debt of approximately $37, 500. I contacted them immediately via email and left a voice message. My call was not returned until the next day. However, prior to this I rec’d and email or phone call EVERYDAY from my 3 advisors. When they did respond on the following day, I was told more or less that's what it is.

I withdrew from class on the morning of May 19th.

The same day I withdrew, I rec'd a demand for payment phone call and email for $403.00. The phone call said that if I withdrew right now before finishing the class, I would be financially responsible. So the next day I got a call that they were turning it over to a collection agency as I was past due on the debt. Yes, not even 24 hours after I withdrew, I rec'd emails and phone calls saying just that. And every day since, I have rec'd calls and emails.

Well today, I rec'd 3 phone calls w/their number blocked and 2 emails saying, that my bill is now $721.00, because I didn't pay it within the first week of withdrawing. The total amount of $721.00 is due by June 10th, 2010.

It has not been 2 weeks and these ppl are harassing me because I w/drew. From the 19th, when I officially withdrew until today, it has been 13 days total.

I have a debt of almost $800.00 for 9 days of “learning team”. In my opinion the UoP is an absolute joke and their unethical business practices prove it.

Decieving business practices
In 2008 I registered for AAHCA/Medical records and the counselor put me in another classAHCA the day before, then did not change this, which I am sure was intentional and a good bonus for her. The courses ran the same until four months before graduation, then they wanted me to take out another loan to complete a course I did not register for and offered me one class for free. I still needed four other classes and would not even be certified as I was told when I enrolled. Even though I had copies of enrollment papers and all emails. letters. I contacted BBB, Consumer affairs, FTC, Department of Education, Student loans, Attorney Generals, Senators, College and University Accredidfation office( Accredidation office I never heard back from). I was told nothing could be done since they cannot help with courses or funding for a wronged education, it was out of there jurisdictions. . I think the Government is involved in a scam with student loans so they can collect that interest. I would think the University should be paid if the proper degree is received, but they must offer up some great campaign donations. I don't see how they can get away with this. Like many others I have been scammed by financial aid and University of Phoenix just to be in debt with nothing more than a $20, 000 for a General education which is worthless. If anyone knows other sources to send a complaint please let me know at [email protected]
