Double charging for classes
Beware of this school. There are hundreds of complaints for fraudulent activity.
I attended the University of Phoenix for six months. At that time I decided to switch to another online school that was cheaper and had different requirements. University of Phoenix was paid for my last term through financial aid, and student loans. I had my transcripts sent immediatly to Capella. Within a few weeks, UoP said they were never paid for my last class, and started billing me for it. I contacted my student loan company, and they showed that all of my classes had be paid. UoP insisted that I owed them money and sent me to collections. I sent a no contact letter, but they continued to illegally contact me. After another year of ignoring the no contact law, they sent the contract to an outside collection agency. I again had to send no contact letters to this agency. They switched to another agency. Afte 2 years of this, they have finally quit contacting me. Another co-worker ofmine had the same problem with them, only they are holding his transcripts at bay, and he can never complete his education anywhere until he pays for classes he doesn't owe for.
One of their ploys that seems to common across the board is to charge for classes that have been dropped. They will not drop the class when requested, and then will charge you because the class was dropped after the drop date.

fraud
In the early fall of 2009 I enrolled at the University of Phoenix via a enrollment counselor in Orange Park, Florida. Her name is Diane. She was all about "helping" me enroll. She even gave me her home telephone number to complete the enrollment. With her "help" she more or less told me what to do on the computer to enroll me in my first class and "helped" me with my financial aid. She rushed me through everything.
Anyway long story short I paid for and finished my first class from my financial aid. The cost for one class and e books? $ 1, 675.00 USD !!!
I called Sallie Mae and told them that this was a rip off and they told me since I already had my financial aid money I could use it at another school. So, I did.
Now I am being billed by UOP ($4, 600.00 ) for classes i did not attend. I did drop from the the school. Now they are threatening collections. I am having to retain an attorney to deal with this so called University. Do not waste your time or money with UOP!!!

Bachelor's Program Outline/Requirements
Hello, everyone. I would like to remain anonymous for personal reasons. I'm starting my third year at the University of Phoenix, which means I'm starting my Bachelor's degree in 3 days actually. My Associate's degree was earned through the Axia College of University of Phoenix and I have to say that I am very surprised with the education that I have received. This school has been a dream come true for me! I have a 3.8 GPA, and I am very excited about starting my Bachelor's program. However, I decided to look into consumer's experiences with the University of Phoenix and Apollo Group and I am literally about to have a stroke! There are more negative comments than anything. So, the reason for my post, it's not really a complaint, is that I need some answers if anyone has any insight. My enrollment counselor did not tell me that the Bachelor's program at UOP was in the group learning style. I don't think I will benefit from this as a student, which is why I chose online learning instead of the traditionally classroom setting. Does anyone have any experience with group learning at UOP or any other online college. What should I do?? Your help is greatly appreciated! Please respond ASAP.

refusal to award degree
I attended the University of Phoenix extension from 2000 to 2004. Before I left, they told me that I only needed 12 units to complete my degree, I had eight years from my start date to complete this (2000-2008), and that since the units I needed were all general education, I could complete them at any community college. If I didn't complete this within the eight year period, all the units I accumulated at UOP would be voided. In 2008, realizing I was close to the eight year mark, I contacted the school in writing and asked for an extrension of time. They granted my request, saying all degree requirements had to be completed by January 1 2009. Not wanting to incur anymore debt by taking out a student loan to attend classes at UOP, I attended my local community college. I completed the units before Jan 1, had the college send UOP an official transcript. UOP received the transcript in Feb 2009. Since then I've had to submit at least two SAC (Student Appeals Committee) appeals to them to have my units accepted. Finally, in August of 2009, My Counselor from UOP called to inform me that my appeals had been denied because they didn't receive the transcript by the Jan 1 deadline. In this same conversation, she offered me the opportunity to attend 3 more classes at UOP (one of which I've already taken) and then the degree would be awarded to me. It seems unfair thatthey can deny me the degree I've worked so hard for simply because they didn't receive the transcript by a certain time, especially since they didn't inform me of this from the begining.

Shady
I was enrolled at University of Phoenix and was doing extremly well. my mother recieved both her bachelor and master degree from there. I got a new Job and had to change to online classes, (biggest mistake of my life)
Everything was messed up I am indebt $733.00 because when I caled drpped the class my academic counselor was on vacation. So her sub didn't answer or return my phone calls nor did she drop the call from the class. I was now being charged for a class i sholdn't have been in. This was in January 2009 it is Janurary 2010 and I stillhave one year of college to finish that I cannot finish because they refuse to correct their mistake. So what am i suppose to do now? Never graduate? I am actually pissed off at tghe school because I reccommended soo many friends and family to this school and some of them are having similar isues.
Beware of terrible academic counselor.
P.S I had 3 in one year.

Scam
I was enrolled at university of phoenix for a month. Red flags began to pop up almost immediately. The web site, 'classroom', was the biggest pain in the but, and organized terribly. The financial aid was an absolute joke. They promised 9500.00 in financial aid, and a 5350.00 pell grant, none of which was ever recieved. I had opted to manage my own funds by having all education money[loans, grants, ect] directly deposited into my savings account. This obviously made them mad. They called me 7 times and wanted me to opt for the school to manage my account funding. When I told them "no", that I was perfectly capable of managing my funds, and that my tuition was paid up to date, they then got mad and sent me a letter stating that either I sign the right to manage funding over to them, or they would just take them anyway without my consent . I contacted 3 different reps, and got 3 different answers. This school is nothing but a "student mill", literally accepting every person that applies, reguardless of their qualifications. The university of phoenix is only interested in ONE thing, MONEY. If you are looking to further your investigation, turn away from UOP, and run FAST!

Lies, deceit and Fraud
In 2004 I was called by a UoP counselor. I knew I wanted to continue my education but didn't think I could manage it or afford it. I was told I wouldn't have to worry because I could get a grant. I agreed to take a single class to see if I could manage. 3 weeks later my son beca, e ill and I withdrew. Again, I was told I wouldn't have to pay anything.
4.5 years later I get a bad account by California Student Aid/EdFund/CSA/ACS/College Loan reported on my credit report dropping my score 80 points. After 9 months now of investigating, I discovered that UoP obtained a loan in my name. They signed me up for some Criminal Justice Program without my knowledge, claimed I earned 3 credits and a C in the class I didn't attend as I was in the hospital with my son and moving from the apartment that we were ankle deep in raw sewage with.
I filed a complaint with the Department of Education. I found the list from the UoP showing that I did NOT complete the documents for the student loan. Forms they claim I "electronically signed" were placed in their system in 2005 (1 year after I withdrew). On these forms they stated I was a medical collections agent, I was not. They placed an address on the forms that I did not live in until after I withdrew, yet they claim I "electronically" signed these forms a month earlier. Why is it that some forms I was able to sign but the money forms I supposedly "electronically signed"?
Now I am being forced to pay this loan plus the interest, even though I didn't sign up for this, nor knew about it until nearly 5 years later. Otherwise I can't obtain the mortgage for my house that I have already paid the non-refundable 5% down on.
This school needs to face justice, be closed down and the people running it need to be held accountable fully. Why isn't anybody doing anything about this company?!!? How many more complaints and similar stories, law suits and disputes does it take to make a company be held accountable for their very unethical business practices?!!?
If there are any answers, please let me know. I have all of my documents prepared and ready. I want to fight this company to the fullest.

Unethical and Misleading Practices
I just read your complaint about the University of Phoenix and their misleading practices forcing students to go through a reentry process.
I too worked with my academic counselor and they even made sure that the courses I needed to complete my degree would be transferable into the program. She was aware that I had lost my job and needed to pay out of pocket so I would need to transfer less expenses community college classes into the program. I only had two more classes to go and I had a year to complete the last two classes. When I called her about my last course she checked to see if it would transfer but later that week told me to call some other person. She did not tell what this person's role was so this was curious to me. She was the third or so individual I had as a advisor so I wasn't sure if this was another turn over moment. UoP has high staff turnover.
This person turned out to be a re-entry counselor. I told her that I didn't understand why I needed to speak with her since I had been transferring my course work in and had never heard about needing to re-enter the program. At no time was I notified that I was in violation of some sort of policy. She told me that I would have to go through a student appeal. She also said that it was unlikely that I would win the appeal she said."...no one does."
I was very dismayed with the news yet hopeful because I had been attending classes and active in my education. The only set back was when I was diagnosed with a serious illness that required me to take a break. Despite this optimism, three to four weeks later I was told that my appeal was denied. She called me back and nothing came in writing to me about this denial. I don't even know who the appeal committee members are or the appeal committee make-up.
Now at this point, I have to take 8 classes instead of the one final class and it creates problems for me with securing further employment opportunities in a highly competitive job market in Michigan.
If there are any others who have had similar issues I welcome to hear your stories whether or not they were resolved or not.
Thanks Kindly,

I have been having the most miserable time so far
I have been a student since october 26th and I have been having the most miserable time so far. The school seams to be fun, but I have not seen a dime as far as grants or financial aid. I have been too two colleges and I have always gotton money asp. I have been having to use my daughters child support to pay for the internet and all my supplies. So as far as I am concerned I would not even give this school a referral. And I don't even drink or smoke or use any kind of drugs, But I know someone who uses her school money for drugs, just makes ya wonder what kind of school this is. so far I do not think very highly of this school.
