This company offers a mobile phone unlocking service. Once you have decided to make a purchase and inputted your payment details, a new page appears requesting identification documents to be scanned and sent to them for verification. The page states that unless this information is sent, the transaction will not be completed and if they don't receive the documents by midnight then the transaction will be cancelled.
I bought codes to unlock a Blackberry 8310 on 6 October 2009 and once I discovered this security policy I decided that I did not want to go ahead with the transaction. As the site had stated that the transaction would not go through, I went ahead and found another company who could supply me with what I needed without needing a copy of my passport to do it. I then received a reminder about the security documents from Unlock to Talk so I immediately returned the email giving my reasons for not supplying the information and requesting confirmation that I would not be charged. I had no response from them.
Later on that day, the codes were sent to me regardless and so I emailed Unlock to Talk again and attached my original email, requesting confirmation that I was not going to be charged for the codes which I no longer needed. Again I heard nothing.
I was charged for the codes and when I contacted Unlock to Talk today to request a refund, I was met with rudeness and disrespect. They stated that "I did read your previous emails to us. Regardless, We are not going to cancel your order because you already received your code & instructions. You received exactly what you paid for. We do not cancel orders because you feel like it after we've already sent the code & instructions." They have since not replied to any of my emails.
I feel that they are being misleading by not mentioning anything about their 'security policy' prior to purchasing the codes and lying to their customers, by stating that the transaction will be automatically cancelled without proof of identification and their customer service is severely lacking.
