Horrible Rates/Customer Service
They do not understand that I will try to help you by explaining that emails and voicemails and talking to whoever in customer service does not encourage me to remain a customer or encourage our entire family to remain as customers based on how they have handled a claim that is unresolved going on over three months now. Honestly I was told my case was reviewed but what I asked for was to be sent to manager of manager and/or appeals. That's what I have asked for in every form for 8 weeks. I have now turned to just reiterating to anyone who answers, in a nice tone, that I'm sorry they are driving me away. What really gets me is the fact that I have quotes for same or BETTER coverage and the premiums are lower. So, they will be losing 8 members by the end of this month because none of us can understand why they would handle us like this, or the amount of life uproaring that must be involved if you should ever have to file and deal with a claim. FYI - 2010 March quote for 6 mos auto insurance came up $200 more than a competitor. Same timing quote for homeowners quote $600 more for one year coverage. Deductibles lower and maximum property/liability/assistance higher with the lower competitor rates. I inquire what they can do by lowering my premium to keep me a customer and I'm told that the quotes I'm receiving from competitors are not accurate and I need to wait for the in-progress claim to clear up... and by the way they value me as a customer. If they valued me, they would clear up the claim (there is no hold up other than someone there reading the reports) and they would suggest that could lower X if I do Y, or really, anything. But today there is no price they could go down or anything they could say to have me ever use them again. Do note that I've been a customer for more than 28 years now.

Home Onwers Insurance
Check your 2010 Home insurance policy. Last year USAA sent out a survey to be filled out concerning our homes. At first I thought nothing of it until I went to my account page and saw a $160.00 yearly increase in premiums as well as my house increased in one year $110, 000.00 in replacement cost. Also, contents doubled. All of this was done without consulting me and when I called to address this I was told that this is their new software and that is what it states for my area. I am somewhere around 125K over insured and will change insurance (reluctantly since I've been with USAA for 18 years) if they will not adjust this.

Mortgage
If your thinking of going through USAA to buy a new home be very careful. first off your going to be paying $350.00 for a good faith estimate. Charging for this is agianst the law according to RESPA. There customer service in this section has to be the most un-educated individuals in there whole company. How can this company operate with out complying with VA rules or RESPA rules. If you decide to use this company be sure you now your rights and the regulations becuase USAA dosn't. Ref - VA pamphlet 26-4 and CFR 38, along with the RESPA handbook.

Scam
Whatever happened to the good USAA. I mean they used to be more then happy to take care of thier customers. It used to be that if for whatever reason there was within a reasonable amount if you didn't have funds they would cover it anyways. I guess thats part of the free overdraft. See when I see free overdraft I see a company saying they willt ake care of me. So now they LIE. They only have free overdraft if you have another account linked to the primary account. So how is that even FREE overdraft. Whats sad is that USAA used to be a great bank, now BOA beats them in thier overdraft protection. USAA seems to be after fees now. Then if you call them and tell them something is fraudulant on your account they tell you that well you have to call the company that sent the fraudulent charge through. So basically you have a bank now that Wants fees, won't investigate fraudulent activity, an blatantly lies to customers. Whats even worse is I spoke to someone who allegedly works in executive relations who told me "tuff we don't care". And that if someone charges something to my account even though there is money in another account we won't cover it, and if you tell us its fraud we won't investigate. So USAA has taken a complete nose dive when it comes to banking, and customer service.

USAA Insurance Passes the buck...
A neighbor backed into my car causing nearly 2k worth of damage. Day of the incident we called in and USAA accepted responsiblilty for claim. The representative said that within 72 business hours an appraiser would be out to see the car and a check would be cut. (This was on a Friday. So sometime before Wednesday night was the expectation that was set.) Wednesday night came and I called in. I was told that the Appraiser has four days to come out and look at the car. "We usually send someone out within one or two days but they have four days." The Appraiser comes out on day four, Thursday, and gives me a written estimate. I call back into the customer care line to see when I can get the car into the shop because the Appraiser didn't cut a check. The representative said the data from the Appraiser would be submitted by Friday morning. Friday evening I call in to check the status on the claim. The representative says that the adjuster needs to review the data submitted by the Appraiser. I was told I would be contacted on Monday.
monday comes and goes. Fast forward to Friday, this is two weeks after the incident, I call back in and now the story is that USAA is not responsible for the claim. The driver of the other car had non-owners insurance (USAA) and USAA states that I have to go through the insurance that is on the vehicle that hit me. So here I am two weeks after my car was backed into ( I just got plates on the car last Thursday.) and am told that I am sol and have to contact the person who backed into my car to get the other insurance information. Problem is the person who was driving the car that hit mine is in Germany. I guess I will have to go through my insurance and pay a deductible and have higher rates. Thanks a lot USAA.

Insurance
After 25 years as a loyal customer of USAA with no claims against my homeowners insurance, and an active duty of the military stationed away from my home of record, USAA has refused to insure us as we prepare to retire in my home state of Florida. They will insure some, but they won't disclose who. The worst part is that I bought a house through USAA movers advantage, and they never mentioned, not once, that I wouldn't be able to get insurance.

False advertising
USAA advertise for "millitary" family, but they don't want to insure people who travels to Iraq and Parkistan.
They wasted your time on lengthy paperworks, medical(even I just got a whole body checkup from my family doctor). After another 6 weeks, finally, they wanted your "travel information". Which millitary doesn't go to Iraq?? Then they denied you at this last minute when "found out" that you will be travelling.
Company like this is false advertising, they want your money, ONLY. I suggest them remove that title "millitary" off their title, don't fool people!

RV loan
Recently I joined USAA, big mistake! I thought I would give them a try and refinance our motorhome with them. The rep took the application, submitted it and all was well, right? Well, 2 days later I had not heard anything so I called them. They indicated the underwriter needs additional information; w-2's, tax returns and paystubs. no problem, faxed them right over, still no response after 2 days. So I called again, they indicated they needed more documents so I sent this information to them as well.
After 6 days, 8 hours of faxing, telephone calls and speaking with over 10 different people, they decide to decline the application because of incorrect information in our application, which conflicted with our documents. My wife started a new job in Jan 2009, the rep who took the application submitted she worked their for 2 years, the underwriter caught this and declined the app.
I was extremely dissappointed in this as you could imagine! This error on their part should have been caught on day 1 not 6 days later and 8 hours of my time and effort...this is the worst business practice I have ever experienced in a fiancial institution and will certainly share with everyone I know!! I asked for a copy of the application adn they denied my request, I also asked to be removed from the membership and they denied this as well...so what they are saying is once you join you cannot "un-join"?? Needless to say, I re-financed the motor home with a more professional and and organized institution!!!

Looks like scam to me
I left active duty military service in June 2005, after serving in the Army as a recon scout for four years, the last of which was spent in Iraq. I signed up for USAA online in June of 2006, and received an email confirming my membership directly thereafter. But when I called them yesterday to get pre-approval on a home loan, I was told I did not qualify for membership, and that they could not help me because I was not a soldier currently fighting on the front lines.
