This place is a big rip off .. went in to get my inspection done .. was told I needed services that I did not need to pass inspection.
If I had done what they had told me needed to be done at their cost, it would have cost me close to 800 - 1000 bucks.
The inspector Daniel Foster listed headlights, rear brake pads, passenger wiper blade.
The manager or whoever he was - a guy named Williams prints me out a receipt that has the headlights listed one place where the rejection reason is listed and then the quotes for rear brake and rotors with service, wiper blade etc on a diff portion saying they are also required for you to pass inspection but I am listing them below so I can give you quotes for those services. He also told me that me regarding the headlights, they would call me later with a quote.
I take my car to my regular mechanic who tells me that there is nothing wrong except for headlights. No other reason for them to reject the safety inspection. My mechanic said I would eventually in few months need brake pads and nothing was wrong with rotors. I insisted he change them anyway . Cost 150 as opposed to the 345 that VA Tire and Auto quoted me.
As regards wiper blade, it was starting to get worn and made a noise but that was a negligible cost but was not in a condition for them to reject.
If I had trusted them, believed that the safety inspector was honestly doing his job and gone by what they said I would be out by at least 1000 given their propensity for over quoting.
I went in the next morning and asked the Willians guy why he had mislead me and why the safety inspector wrote the brake pads and wiper also reasons for rejection on the worksheet.
As per Williams .. the inspector Daniel Foster is in the habit of "suggesting" repairs along with rejection reasons. (but giving the customer the false impression that they are also reasons for the rejection)
IS IT THE HABIT OF SAFETY INSPECTORS TO SUGGEST REPAIRS AND LIST THEM ALONG WITH THE REASONS THAT THEY ARE REJECTING A CAR'S SAFETY STICKER ? IS THIS EVEN ALLOWED ?
I had them give me the copy of the worksheet where the inspector had written the reasons in his own handwriting.
I am complaining about the integrity of this safety station. My friend had a similar experience. People should call the the Virginia State Police safety division and complain about this place. If more people did that they might reconsider giving these guys the license to inspect vehicles.
The number to call NoVA area safety division is (703) 803-2622
Obviously it about more scamming customers to make money than making it the honest way by offering services that puts customers' interests first.
