I was phoned by a marketing company that informed me that my name was selected from a drawing with the the option of winning 1 of 4 prizes. First prize, Lincoln Navigator or $45, 000, Second Prize a Free trip w/ air to Orlando, Miami, Las Vegas or Los Angeles, Third Prize, $2, 500 and Fourth Prize a 32 Flat Screen TV. The event was for couples only and was located at the Holiday Inn at 2101 Wisconsin Avenue in Washington, DC. Upon arrival I and my partner had to sign in a show ID and we came to get our free gift. However, we had to sit through a travel ownership program before getting our prize. After the presentation we had to say yes or no to the program and then we would get our prize. All agents or whatever they call themselves, did not say their names or titles. The presentation included the prices for the so called Cadillac version of the ownership program which was based on how many weeks purchased. They were asking for $8, 995 up front plus $500 in additional fees. Each marketing guy that came over definitely tried to lower the price in order to get us to buy. The money was not an issue for us, however, we wanted to see some credentials. They could not provide us with them. I asked for the companys BBB report and the one they provided did not appear to be authentic. They said they received a score of B and when I researched their score was an F. I asked for the TAX ID, NAICS code and possible DUNS number and they did not know. When one marketer came to the table, he said he could ask the owner because he was in the back of the room. but when he went to ask, the owner responded by saying, he was too busy and that he could not answer. I am an extensive note taker and everyone who came to the table pointed that out. I think I made them nervous. I also googled on my phone during the presentation this company and I saw nothing but bad things in reference to scams and fraud. How are they getting away with this? Some folks signed up while others did not.
