I recently signed a purchase agreement for a car to receive after a loan agreement was accepted. I was very confident about the result, but when told the loan had been denied, I then asked for my 10% deposit of $13, 000 to be returned. Chris the dealer for Vantage Motors, located at Kowloon Bay HITEC, then said he would not be returning my deposit according to the rules stated in the contract. I returned home to look again at the contract. I turned over the signed document to find the whole of the back written in Chinese. Going back to the day I signed, I read the front side thoroughly and Chris carefully went through the details with me. As I saw nothing untoward, I then signed the bottom of the paper. This agreement is of course illegal as there is no English version and the only signed part I referred to as únderstood' is to the front side of the document. If I had read and understood the back, then surely I would have signed at the bottom of Chinese writing! I will be taking this company to the small claims court and informing the local news paper of this scamming company. I'm now even wondering if they do this to a lot of customers, perhaps not even putting the loan application in, just to claim 10% deposit.
