Wedding mishaps
We were married June 12, 2010 after over 2 years of planning on a limited budget and with little help, it was stressful, but our day finally came. Our Reception was at Vell's in Medina, Ohio. People spoke very highly of them and they were very nice people until they got our money. On our wedding day we had a couple disappointments as a result to Vell's ignorance & unprofessional staff.
#1- one of our main dishes was to be Chicken because I, the bride don't eat anything else. Instead we received Rigatoni & Meatballs. My Sister, Husband & Father-in-law did talk to Vell & his mother who admitted the mistake and apologized, and admitted she had never made such a mistake before. I told my husband we would take care of it later, that this was our day.
# 2- My Sister had to ask the staff to please clear off the tables, my guests were being served deserts with tables piled with dishes.
#3- Once they started to clear the tables my Husband and I were on the dance floor dancing to "Our First Dance" when the staff walks across the dance floor, dumps the cart of dishes that break all over the dance floor during our dance, usually you don't see anyone on the floor when the Bride & Groom are dancing, it's a respect thing.
#4- We paid extra to have our reception until Midnight, so why did they close the bar at 11:30. We were not told this would happen, we were told the extra $ we paid goes toward all the staff to stay that extra hour.
#5- We did not find this out until after our wedding, my Sister didn't want to upset us. My DJ pulled my Sister aside and told her he had overheard a staff member tell someone, "There is a very important wedding going on in the Gala Hall...These are just small weddings". There were a total of 3 weddings there that day. Now it made sense why the tables weren't being cleaned off. Our DJ told my photographer the same thing, he just felt so bad that he had heard that.
My father-in-law called Vell's to discuss their unprofessional behavior and not getting what we ordered, while we were on our Honeymoon, Vell Sr's answer was, "Do you know how much Ground Meat is, we lost money making the Rigatoni." The thing is we never ordered Rigatoni. Then Vell Jr. took the phone yelling at my father in law and said, “Who are you, your nobody why are you calling” and was hung up on by Vell Jr.
My Sister stopped in there to pick up stuff we had left behind and spoke to Vell Sr.'s wife, my sister said to her “ I have faith in you that you will make things right when my sister gets back.” She again admitted her mistake and said to have me call her when we got back and she could make things right. My sister said how wrong and unprofessional it was that her son hung up on my father-in-law. She stated to my sister how the men have such tempers.
I called when we returned from our Honeymoon. I spoke to her on 6/23, about all our disappointments she again admitted her mistake about the chicken and would not hear of the tables not being cleaned off (I have pictures)and didn't believe the fact that a member of her staff was overheard about our wedding not being important enough. I asked for my Gratuity back for they do not deserve it. She could not promise me that but told me she would call me the following week after talking to her husband & son and let me know what they decided to do for us. We gave her that next week and a few days this following week to respond, still nothing. I called Vell's on 7/7/2010, Vell Sr. answered. I asked to talk to his wife he asked who it was & when my wedding was, I told him she was supposed to call me back to let me know what they were going to do for us. He then started SCREAMING at me telling me that he is tired of hearing about my wedding that it was beautiful and I was getting nothing and proceeded to hang up on me. I was fuming, I called back no answer, I called again and got the answering machine, I said "It was very unprofessional to hang up on me, your wife admitted her mistake and told me she'd do something to make it right I have given you the opportunity to make it right and you have chosen not to, now you’re going to wish you never hung up on me."
This is unprofessional of Vell’s we paid over $6000 to them for we deserved the same courtesy and respect that they showed the other Wedding.
