April 2010, My daughter purchased a AAA Visa Travel Money Card to take to Africa where she was to work and travel. There was no problem until this month, November, when she discovered that someone hacked into her account and stole $2000.
When she called Visa, she kept getting disconnected. She emailed me for help as she needed money.
I called Visa and I was very dissatisfied with their response. They basically told me that she had to file a dispute claim which could take up to 120 days to resolve.
When I said that I need to get money to her right away, I was told that they would send out a new card to our home in Massachusetts and then she could use that. Well...she's in Kenya and a card in MA doesn't help her.
After over a half hour of me complaining that they are responsible for her loss and they need to do something so I can get money to her, they finally hooked me into a supervisor. who gave me a number so I could send her some emergency money.
What I want to let EVERYONE know is that the Visa Travel Money Card is not safe and is not convenient for travelers if anything should go wrong. They could not be contacted and when contacted they were uncooperative, not understanding and very unhelpful.
The process to recover the money is terrible. Visa faxed the forms to her. She never got them. When I asked for the forms, so we could scan them and email them to her, I was told that I was not authorized to speak for her. Again I had to complain, and after too much effort, I finally got the forms. Then to find out that they want the forms back in 10 days???!!!??? She's in Africa!!! It was in no way her fault that the money was stolen, yet she has to burden the process to recover it!!!
Visa Travel Money Card is a piece of **##!!**## and please let everyone know!
