Wachovia Bank Reviews

November 20, 2008
Overcharged
As others have written, this is really about ALL banks, I suppose. One Saturday I used my debit card for several small purchases. I had the funds to cover these purchases, and late that night the combined amounts of those purchases were evident from the balance.

On the following Monday, my mortgage company sent through an electronic debit that they were not supposed to. Instead of the mortgage payment overdrafting the account, they retroactively placed the Saturday transactions in front of the Monday transactions, causing $420 in overdraft charges, and I didn't have money to deposit to pay these charges, as we only had slightly more than the combined amount of these debits. what should have been a 35 dollar nsf fee became a $420 nsf fee. If this is legal, it should not be.

There is a video called 'maxed out', in which the fact that credit card companies and banks have become dependent on these and late and overcredit-limit fees for their profits. I am not an 'eat the rich' type, but it is in fact the poor and the poor-money-manager types that they prey upon. The well-to-do might not have even noticed such a problem. Am I the only one to whom this smells rancid?

Everything about them
How is it that an organization as stupid as Wachovia stayed in business this long. I bounced a check In October, It happens. It happens especially when the speed up the handling of certain deposits. I travel on business and moved money between bank via ATM deposits. For Weeks I would deposit in Newburgh NY and the check would clear 4 days later. Then they sped up the process and had the check clear in 2 days. They assured me that they would not redeposit the check, they would send it to me and I would make it good. I recieved a "substitute check on a Tuesday and they electronically deposited my check again on Wednesday causing it to bounce again. Did i mention that I am up to almost $200 in fees at this point?
The bank doesnt know why the check went through again, I am 100 miles from the closest branch and they have cncelled my ATM card and I am being investigated for Fraud. I got all the Fees refunded for the second attempt at putting the check through again after threatining legal action. They assured me I would get the use of my ATM card back when I returned the account to a positive. I brought it back to +.01. Let 3 weeks go by and tried to deposit cash into the account and found out the card has been cancelled, and the account is scheduled to be closed. On 11/14 I spent 35 minutes talking to just about everyone at Wachovia to try to resolve this. They offered me keeping the account open, but I would not have access to it Via an ATM card. Very handy for the individual who travels.

When I started to ask about corporate information ie: the name of the current ceo I recieved 2 names.
1. Ken Thompson who was ousted back in June
2. Lancy Smith who appears nowhere in any listings on line.

I did search and find that as of a memo in October to the share holders
The CEO is Robert K Steele
and if he replaced Ken Thomson his address would be
1 Wachovia Center
Charlotte NC 28288 704-374-6565

It is my goal to do as much PR damage to wachovia that 1 individual can.

They say the have been voted #1 in customer service, they never asked anyone I know who banks with them.

So all of you who share my views of Wachovia and their scheeming ways and lies to make money contact me at
[email protected]

Maybe we can do enough harm to gove Citi bank or Wells Fargo a good deal. God knows wachovia has been giving it to their customers long enough.

Unethical Practices of stealing customers money
During these times of financial crisis, we are encouraged by many to not panic. Don't take your money out of the stock market or the banking institutions. However, these are the ones that are ripping us off.

I had a balace in my account with Wachovia of $70.65. I made a $42.80, $27.80 and $13.13 that posted on October 15, 2008. On October 14, I was charged $105.00 for three nonsufficient fund fees. I think if they weren't such idiots they would have known that I should have only had one overdraft fee of $35.00. My first two purchases should have covered leaving me a balance of five cents. But as if this was not enough on October 16, 2008 when my direct deposit posted they charged me another $105.00 fee which they called the overdraft charge. Now I have a total of $210.00 in fee charges.

What's the point of the bailout, they can get money from ripping customers off.

I went into the banking center on Pantersville road, the bank manager was sitting at the desk laughing and flirting with security. I pardoned the conversation not knowing she was the manager and asked if I could speak to the manager. She asked in reference to what. I said to discuss my account. She then asked for identification and pulled up my account on the screen and turned the screen to face me. I felt uncomfortable with this practice and asked if we could go into an office for my privacy. Her respond was no and she proceeded to discuss my account. I told her I would go to another bank, thank you for your time you have a good day, and as I proceeded to walk away, she said it will be this way at any bank because you have nonsufficient funds. I continued to walk to the tellers counter and withdrew my remaining balance. I have direct deposit and I know it is a process to change this, but from now on when my money post to my account I will withdraw immediately, until I can close the account. I am not even considered a middle class person, I am below that in status, therefore an attorney is out of the question. What do people like me do? Are we forgotten? or just Ignored and disrespected.

Overcharged
The same thing happened to me as it did to Ralph. I too understand 'know your balance'. However it was my understanding that charges & deposits posted at midnight +/-. I get paid direct deposit on the 15th. On the 14th I checked my balance & it showed $55. I knew I had a $50 charge but there was no hold & I pretty much knew it would post that night but my check would be going in also. So I bought some items totaling less than the $55 that showed in my balance.

Like Ralph, I was charged an overdraft. They used the day the transaction was done, not the day it posted. I called Wachovia's 800 # first thing and was told there was nothing they could do. I asked 'Don't deposits & debits post at midnight, with deposits first?'

I was informed that the TRANSACTION was done on the 14th (even though it posted at midnight) and that my deposit didn't actually post at midnight. My deposit posted SOMETIME between midnight & 7:30 am. Though they couldn't tell me exactly when.

So, it doesn't go - deposits first, minus debits, equals balance. Wachovia uses 'fuzzy math' to their advantage and to hell with you. I'm closing my account with Wachovia and taking my business elsewhere. I'm a single Mother & like everyone else I don't take kindly to being stolen from.

Unauthorized billing
I use Bill Pay thru Wachovia. In Sept they started charging my account on the day I scheduled a payment (I'm not referring to electronic payments but payments made by check). The payee did not cash the check for another 10 days - therefore they had the use of my money for 10 days. If they do that with every depositor just think how much of our money they have to use every day that they shouldn't.

After all, it's our money until the check is returned to the bank cashed by the payee. The Presidents office said they couldn't do anything about the situation.

Poor customer service
I do all my banking on line. I have two checking accounts with this bank. On 8/8/08, I was paying bills with my computer using the checking account I use to pay bills. One checking account is for bills only and one for business. They took $60.00 out of my business account and charged me $22.00 because I didn't have enough funds. I called customer service the same night That was a big joke and a waste of time. I also e-mailed the CEO of Wachovia and that was a bigger waste of time.
I'll tell you the same thing I told the CEO; "they should call it CUSTOMER GET SHAFTED AND NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE".

Rip off
I too have been victimized by Wachovia's devious method of posting the largest amount before the smaller transaction amount. Wachovia's excuse is always that the larger transaction amount could be your mortgage or car payment and the importance of those payments justify this backwards policy. In reality we all know the reason for this policy. It is to simply maximize the overdraft fees to take full advantage of the customer's mistakes, just another way of nickel and diming the little guy to death.

It also wrong for Wachovia to take the check card purchases and hold them in some electronic netherworld where they can float and linger until the bank decides these charges can now be subtracted from your account. Without any way for the customer to know which of these charges came in first and when exactly they will be deducted this creates confusion which can result in multiple overdrafts. They are masters of this deceptive practice!

I am willing to join anyone who is involved in formulating a class action suit against Wachovia. I strongly encourage others to join in this action.

Bad service
On July 26th of this year, I called the Wachovia Bank by my house to ask if they would cash the check I received from my insurance company for car repairs. They told me to do the following: take the car to the dealer to get it repaired, then go to the bank, they would have me fill out a form and it would be signed over to the dealer so the repairs can be paid for. I go to Wachovia Bank near my house on Aug 9, 2008. I speak to a person and he gives me the phone # to Wachovia Dealer Services. I call Wachovia Dealer Services. They tell me to mail the check to their office in California and they would sign it over. I live in Colorado. My car repairs are finished and the car ready to be picked up. I don't want to wait a week for a person out of state to sign over my check to the car dealer. My Mom then calls Wachovia Bank today, Aug 9, 2008. She is told the same thing I was told yesterday. That I would have to get it signed over by Dealer Services. Not from the bank itself. So within the course of 2 weeks, Wachovia Bank reversed their policy. We asked to speak to a manager. We ended up speaking o a manager and the manager at the bank told us the same thing. If I was told I would have to go to the Dealer Services originally, I would not have taken the car to the dealer yet. The only possible bright side is that there is a Dealer Services office in my state. Unfortunately it is about a 50 mile drive to and from there. Because of the inconsistency, I would never open up an account with Wachovia and I would not recommend people do either.
