Obscene Overdraft Charges
I check wachovia online every morning, much like I check the progress ( really regress lately) of my 401(k), and IRA accounts. I have always had an obssession with numbers and enjoy watching these accounts grow or get less. Anyway going back to last thursday I woke to have roughly $275 in my posted and actual balance. I used my check card to buy a $4.50 chic-fil-a breakfast $1. Ths brought my avaiable balance to $270. The posted stays the same and the $4.50 goes to the check card holds since it was actually visa who paid chic-fil-a and wachovia has not paid visa yet.
So now lets fast forward to monday where in between (rest of thueday, friday, saturdahy and sunday) i spent around 180. Buying everything from a $5 deli lunch to 2 $10 movie tickets to $30 in gas to a $60 atm withdrawal. So Monday morning wachovia online says $275 posted balance... $100 avaialbe. Monday afternoon I get an e-mail offer from the Philadelphia Phillies for Game 7 NLCS tickets ( if neccessary). I bought 2 each at $60 a pop plus a $20 service charge, I knew this would make my avaialbe under $0 but here was my thinking:
1.At midnight my paycheck was hitting so I might not even get hit with a $35 overdraft charge.
2. Even if they hit me with a charge, I would never live with myself if the NLCS came to a Game 7 and i turned down tickets, so I'll eat the charge.
HOW WRONG I WAS
Apparantly they take your highest "unprocessed" transactions, regardless of timing and put them first so you have
$140 tickets
$60 ATM
$50 Dinner for myself and girlfriend
$25 in gas
brings us to 275, everyhting after that is overdraft and ALL cleared the check card holds (except the tix)... 11 transactions = $385... my thursday and friday chic-fil- breakfasts (yes those items that i paid for last week) cost $39.50
So here is what i see on wachovia online
I see all those little charges posted bringing me down to roughly $100 posted balance then i see $385 overdraft fees bringing it to (285) then i see my paycheck being depsoited for $2200 and only one check card hold still out there ... Phillies Internet sales. When it is thought about logically, after the tickets clear the check card holds, everything will have been paid for when there was positive cash in my account.
If I am overreacting, please tell me and I will continue business with wachovia. I am not even going to get into the phone conversations becasue if you are reading this you probably have had similar phone convesations.

Overdraft fees
Being European and now living in the US I made an account with wachovia, I was given a debit card for it and was explained what that means as it's dif' the from Europe (pretty much saying you can't buy on credit so when you go below 0 the card declaines) Well had the account for a while and then it happent, overdrafted it, got the little slip in the mail saying i overspendt 3 dollars, so now adding on the 35 dollar fee i owed them 38. Fair enough, my bad.
I kinda knew i had been close to the limit, What i didn't know was i had not only spendt 3 dollars too much but actually 100, over 18 transactions. So now I owe them 856 dollars. yea know the numbers don't add up but that's what it says.
What I don't understand is, 18 transactions and the card was still being accepted?? dosen't it mean you can't buy on credit?? but if so are they thinking, hmm we'll let him rent this 1 dollar movie at walmart cuz then we can charge him 3500% on that dollar? lol.. Smart business fom the bank. but where's the limit?? 18 transactions and 756 dollars in fees... can't be legal, or if it, then surely there's so morals missing at wachovia. Meaning i can pay it off, but what about those who can't?? their getting into debt when trying to stay out of it of course, and the bank is making what? billions on this type of scam. Shame on you wachovia, really, This is anything but what you told me when i made the account. using lies to make money. NICE..

Overcharged
I am so happy I started reading the posts on this site and now I'm not alone in my frustration with this bank and their continual pillaging of my bank account with their outrageous NSF fees! I can't believe it's now legal for them to charge you $35 when you have an automatic bill pay set up & there isn't enough money in the account. Since the week of Christmas they've charged me over $400 in NSF fees, and I still can't get a reasonable explanation.
I am writing letters to my attorney general, the BBB, and everyone else recommended in a previous post. And I'm willing to help start a class action suit against them. I have no idea how to begin, but where there's a will...

Awful bank
I went to Las Vegas for two weeks and when I came back I had one of those postcards from Wachovia which stated I had an overdraft. I went online and discovered I had $82.00 in NSF fees, so I called them to see if I could get them waived. The person on the phone said they sometimes waive the fees for people but I haven't been a customer for long enough. Then I checked the transactions to see how I could have overdrawn my account, because I was keeping track of my balances online. I had a payment to my credit card for $64.00 that was taken out on 8/27 and I was $2.23 short because they charged me $4.00 for using a non Wachovia ATM on 8/25. So they charged me a $22.00 NSF fee. Then on 9/2 they charged me another $35.00 NSF fee because the credit card company tried to take the money out again. Then on 9/3 I spent $31.29 on my debit card and was charged another $35.00 NSF fee. When I spent the $31.29 on my debit card on 9/3 I had just checked my balance online and it was shown as available. I would not have used the non Wachovia ATM If I had known about the fees. I was checking my balance everyday so If I saw any of those fees I would have put deposited more money to cover the expense. It took a week to post the fees so I just kept on racking up the fees and then I spent more money and got more fees.
They purposely don't post transactions In a timely matter so they can rack up more fees. I have a negative balance of $61.52 and they will not close the account because it has a negative balance. I have spent hours reading the stories of all the people who have been charges all these outrageous fees by Wachovia and their policy of clearing the biggest item first so they can rack up extra fees on all the smaller transactions.
These fees are being paid by the middle and lower class people who really can't afford it. For someone who is living paycheck to paycheck, $300 in fees really hurts, its gas money, food money, and utilities money. I am not just going to take this without a fight.
I read about Karney Hatch (the film maker) who took Wells Fargo to small claims court over excessive overdraft charges and won. I am going to file a small claims court case over this, I may not win but It will take recourses away from Wachovia for them to fight It. I am going to post my story on as many websites as I can find and report this to the Better Business Bureau and consumer advocacy agencies working on this issue. I'm also going to complain to congress and I read that there is a class action lawsuit that was approved so maybe I can join that. I have a Wachovia branch a block away from my house so I am going to make ten one cent deposits everyday in the ATM so I can cost them as much money as possible to process them. I'm sure I can cost this veiled criminal enterprise known as Wachovia more money in court costs and lost customers that the $82.00 they stole from me.

Beware
We mailed a $1, 300.00 check for deposit to our Wachovia Bank checking account in Dothan, Alabama. September 1, 2008 the bank admitted receiving the deposit Tuesday, September 2, and told me it would be processed after midnight. They would not, however honor my debit card to purchase necessary prescriptions on Thursday. Automatic bill pay was suspended. The bank will not refund "Late" charges. They used our money for a week; paid no interest and gave us no access to our funds. This action is obscene and an insult to their so called Senior Citizen friendly policy.

Rip off
I was called by wachovia on Saturday, August 30th, by Wachovia concerning my parents not having insurance on their pickup. I told this person that they were mistaken because I pay the insurance bill. They argued with me about it until I stated that I would like some proof of no insurance and told them I bet I could prove them wrong.
They told me to have my parents clean out the pickup because they were not going to deal with me any longer. I was then told they knew where I lived, I asked if that was a threat and was told to take it anyway I felt. I took it as a threat and called the police in my town and explained what had happened and to see if they could patrol the neighborhood a little more than what they do. I was at camp and my youngest daughter who is 18 was at home alone. I called the neighbors and asked them to keep an eye out for any one that was suspicious that came to the house. I called a friend in my parents home town to make sure that they would be looked after.
I feel if this company is doing this kind of thing to me, then just imagine what they are doing to others. I wonder if anyone was actually hurt by them physically. Something needs to be done before they go to far.

NSF fees ripoff
Wachovia rips people off left and right this is not the first time I have had to pay nsf fees due to them allowing companies to keep charging when i gave one time authorization. Also if you are a dollar short they do not pay. Like Wamu they give their customers some respect. Wamu is all about the money they do not care less about their customers. They are no better than Amsouth and look what happen to them sold out of business. Wachovia will be next especially with a Ceo like they have. If you have to call customer service be expected to be treated poorly and don't bother asking for a supervisor they are even worse to deal with. We as Americans need to step up and start telling big business banks this is not allowed. We need our government to put regulate banks just like they do other companies that try to rip people off. I would be happy to join a class action lawsuit lets put this bank in their place.
