My son called me at home to come to our local Wal-Mart to assist him with a rude manager who he felt was trying to deceive him regarding an exchange he was trying to make. The rudeness included snatching the receipt from his hand, being very sarcastic throughout the conversation, and being disrespectful.
He went their to exhange a computer game he had bought at Wal-mart. The game was defective and he returned it with the receipt for an exchange. The store clerk made the exchange, which he signed the exchange receipt for, but then she started to open the new game. He told her he did not want the game opened. She stated that it was store policy that if you returned an item open, they had to open the item you exchanged it for. The purpose behind this is so that people cannot return the exchange for money. I have never heard this before and was sure she made it up.
When I got there, I asked if I could see the exchange policy and the manager told me it was on the wall. The return policy was on the wall, however; there was not an exchange policy on the wall at this store.
I asked her if she had the policy written on a flyer or on the back of the receipt that customers could refer to and they did not. My son and I both felt that the manager or this particular store had made up this exchange policy and it gave the impression that all of their customers were thieves or dishonest. Neither of us liked the feeling of disrespect we received from this store and the store employees. Like many people, I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars at Wal-Mart. Needless to say, they've just lost two more customers, myself a doctor and my son a soon to be pharmacist.
