I was an employee who worked in the Walgreen Pharmacy on Hamilon Road in North College Hill, Ohio, a suburban neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio.
As a new employee, my training consisted of compuer work only. My training was to be done at one store, that person never trained me, they went on vacation, so I was put infront of a computer to train myself with no resources. My floor training consisted of one day with a gal that did not pay attention to my work procedures (she talked and carried on inappropriate conversations in stead of training me) nor appropriately answer questions when asked. I was consistently told however that I had to hurry, due to volume and time that the prescriptions had to be filled. Accuracy was never pressed as an issue, volume proeduction howeverwas.
I had previously work in a major hospital ICU, with familiararity to drugs and procedures regarding drug safety. I observed the lead pharmacist take back drugs that had been sold, container opened and returned for refund after use and the drug put back into stock for resale...that was not appropriate.
I observed employees rude to customers, one actally yelling over the counter at the customer calling them a lier (and I quote that one). Distention between employee and customer with many of the employees was a daily occurance. Pharmacists were rude to the techs and on several occations when I was asking the advice of the pharmacist I was ignored and my question regarding the filing a precription was not ansswered.
Walgreen policy for "puppy mill" prescription service is dangerous and I was witness to a multitude of errors in transcription and filling of orders. As a new employee I was appauled and discusted. Their policy regarding the filling of precriptions I found dangerous . I was informed down to the second how much time I had to fill any one presecription. I basiclly refused to attempt to fill a script unless I knew I was doing it properly, I took appropriate time to pull and enter the drugs for the pharmacist. I took pride in a zero error rate over production rate.
I witnessed the store manager yelling and verbal abusing a floor employee (with both yelling and profanity), she left crying. That is abusive behavior. This is only one of many disturbing incidence I witnessed.
As I have tried to contact the Corporate office to officially speak with someone regarding the store to which I had worked, I found no one would answer the phone call nor return them. Also, no one answered the phone in Payroll services regarding a reissue of myu W2 form which I never received in the mail. I finally got a secretary in Corporate to take my information to contact payroll services for me, since I had been trying for three days, being on hold for > 45 each time with no answser each time. Time will tell if my W2 comes in the mail.
There were a few employees with good work ethic, but in the pharmacy I only noted one pharmacist that took the appropriate attitude and time with customers (talking scenerely with the customer and not throwing the meds at them at the consult windoww) as well as two techs that were helpful in my training (not the person assigned to train me).
I personally would never get a presciption filled at Walgreen, employees and corporate policy make it too dangerous a place...Due to the high risk of liability and my values on work ethics, I have quit after a month + on the job and I would never work for Walgreen again nor recommend anyone to work for them.
