Walmart moneycard Reviews

They stole my money and lied to me
On March 25, 2009, I purchased a WalMart MoneyCard (Green Dot Visa Prepaid Card) from the WalMart store located in Hanover, MA (Store #5380), phone (781) 826-0606 . They took my money and supposedly put it on the card for my use once I called or went online and provided an activiation number from my receipt. Please note, WalMart charges a premium to purchase the card in addition to the amount of money they take from you and SUPPOSEDLY put on the card for your use. I immediately called the 877-965-7848 number on the WalMart receipt and went through a series of personal identification questions through an automated attendant. After having given my name, date of birth, social security number, home address, PO Box, among other personal identity information, I was then greeted by a human voice with a heavy foreign accent. He informed me that he was UNABLE to verify my name and social security number and was therefore UNABLE to activate the card. Please note, WalMart covers their a$$e$ by stating on the receipt "no instore refunds available." It was SO obvious to me at that point that this was a scam and that I would never see my money again! The foreign voice told me that he could at least activate the card for the amount of money that I had paid to put on it only and that a personalized card would not be sent to me. I thought, ok. That's fine. I'll just go spend it now to make sure I get my money back. I had to make another purchase, so the very next purchase I maid, I tried to use the card and guess what? IT WAS DECLINED!!! Surprised? I wasn't. I KNEW based on the total BS I was given by the forein operator that this was a SCAM!!! However, I was STEAMING as this was the last bit of money I had until I got paid again 2 weeks from 3/25 so called the phone number on the back of the prepaid visa card 877-937-4098 several times...each time speaking with from what it sounded, the same foreign female voice. She kept telling me that they couldn't activate the card and that they would send me a refund check in the mail to my PO Box within 7 to 10 business days. I was LIVID to say the least. I called the WalMart store and they kept reiterating "NO INSTORE REFUNDS." I've called every number made available on the card, the receipt, to the WalMart store everyday that there was NO check in my PO Box. It is now April 12, 2009; 19 days later and I still haven't received a refund check. I've had my attorney call the numbers as well and even he wasn't succeful in getting through to a human to speak with. All of the numbers that were provided other than the WalMart store who takes NO responsiblity for the SCAM are all automated and you cannot get through to any 'human'!!! I'm so disheartened to think that such a supposedly reputable Company such as WalMart would allow this to happen to consumers. I subsequently googled "WalMart MoneyCard - GreenDot Prepaid Visa" and I couldn't believe all of the complaints I found online that described, verbatim, the very same horrific experience! I don't know what to do about this. Is there someone out there that can expose WalMart, Green Dot, GE Money Bank and VISA for this SCAM on consumers? They're stealing out money...literally stealing out money.

Canceled card
Had my walmart moneycard for almost 2 years now. Every day I deposit my tips (I'm a delivery driver). yesterday, My card stopped working so I called customer service. I was told that the Card was blocked because I was in violation of the terms of service. I asked how, and was told that according to the terms of service, moneycard can limit the number and size of reloads. and that I had been given many chances over the past 2 years to come into compliance. I was then told that only 3 reloads a week were allowed. No contact, no calls or notification that I was not doing things correctly. now I am told that the card will be canceled on the 18th of May and that there's nothing that can be done. I have my direct deposit to this account and all my bills set up on it.

Customer Service
DO NOT direct deposit to Walmart MoneyCard. I lost my card for a few hours, then found it. They would not reinstate my card, they told me I could, for a fee, have it Fed Ex'd in a couple of days. NO help whatsoever. ALLLLLLL my money is on the card and it is a week later and they still have not even put the card on the Fed Ex truck yet. I have 5 kids and it's two days before Christmas - they have all my money and I can't even get gas or food, much less Christmas presents!!! I've called repeatedly but they don't care. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE VULTURES!!!

Crappy service
I purchased a walmart moneycard and had money direct deposited to it. The first week everything went well, no complaints. This was a set direct deposit to occur at the same time each week, same amount, same payer. The second week the direct deposit never showed up. I contacted the payer who confirmed it was an automatic direct deposit and sent me a receipt for the deposit with a transaction number from their bank showing it was deposited. I called Walmart moneycard who said it would take several days for the direct deposit to go through. I spoke with a supervisor who insisted that they did not receive it. When I advised that I had a transaction number and receipt of direct deposit indicating they did, this supervisor assured me that if they had the money it would be showing in the account. I asked if she would like the receipt number, and she said it would do no good because they did not have the money. I confirmed that the account and routing numbers were correct...and asked what I needed to do. She advised to contact the payer again. I contacted the state of Ohio, which was the payer and they emailed me detailed information from their bank on the transaction including date and time that walmart moneycard received the deposit. I called walmart moneycard and advised that I had this information and that they had my money. I had to speak with a manager who stated that the walmart moneycard shows no transaction processing from that bank, although the account numbers and routing numbers were all correct. Per Walmart money card, they are not responsible for monies that are lost on their end, and they will make no attempt to retrieve it as that is the customer's responsibility. Again, let me state this production happened only after having the moneycard for two weeks, and I paid the $3 for the card, AND they did not hesitiate to remove a $4.95 monthly fee from my account for using their card with their crappy customer service. Wal-mart needs to pull green dot cards from their shelves and stop this nonsense. At this time I STILL have not received my money from them.

Terrible service...
I needed to purchase something online and since I am only 17 and do not yet have my own credit card I decided to go out and purchase one of these cards from WalMart which I trusted. In the past I had purchased normal visa prepaid cards (not greendot or walmart brand) and those were great and easy to activate over the internet but this one was a very different story. I go to WalMart and take the card to the cashier and pay them $240 to put on the card plus an additional $3 card fee, easy enough. I go home and get on the computer and start the activation process and finish 2 or 3 pages of data out as required (including social security number). On the last page it asks for my data of birth so I enter that and hit "continue" where at that point it loads a page saying that I need a parent or guardian over the age of 18 to call them at their 1-877 number and verify that I am allowed to use this card (pretty stupid as I am the one who drove to walmart and paid the money myself) but I got a little frustrated and just waited until my parent got home to call and get this done with, not so easy again.. Parent gets home, calls the number for me and they want the parent's information (name, address, social security numbers, etc..) so we give them that info and they run a check on it to verify on their database. Few minutes later the agent tells us that both of our names and social security numbers do not match up. This is impossible as we both read our numbers to them directly from their social security cards more than 1 time and have never any trouble like this in the past with getting that verified. thought maybe they had just typed it in their computer incorrectly so I ask to have it repeated back to me so they do and its exactly as I read to them and matches up with our cards so I don't see what the problem is on their end getting false information, not sure what database they run these against but it can't be very accurate. Anyhow, in result since neither of us can get verifed by them they have to cancel the card and issue a refund via check in the mail which will take 7-10 business days to arrive to my address. I ask them why I can't just take it back to walmart and get the cash back as I paid just 3-5 hours before I called them that same day and they simply reply with "Walmart can not do that for you as we are the only ones with access to the information". I call Walmart and talk the head supervisor there who confirmed that they only "sell" the cards and after the sale is complete it is out of their hands and they can't do any refund or anything like that. So basically now I'm stuck waiting 7-10 days to get the $243 back from them when I needed it today which is pretty crappy in my opinion. Not sure why they even need to do so much to verify in the first place, not like I'm going to get a million dollar loan or something... Obviously we aren't lying about our information or else we wouldn't be giving them so much info on us as well as paying the $243 cash up front which makes no sense to as it can't just be activated instantly like it should be. Anyways, I'm done ranting for now but am very upset with this company and will most definitely never use or recommend them again.

can not use
I recieved a walmart moneycard for a baby shower gift it was loaded with 40 dollars. I proceeded to activate the card over the phone and was sent another card in the mail with my name on it. I tried to activate the card over the computer because over the phone was complicated. I was unable to activate the card I recieved in the mail. I tried to use the card anyway since the first one was activated over the phone and it would not go through. I spoke with customer service and was told it should not be a problem since the first one was activated but still it would not go through. I really think that the person who spent her money on this gift would not be happy to know that her 43 dollars was pretty much a waste. I have let people know that they should not purchase a moneycard from walmart 1. the charge 2. complicated 3. you may or may not get to use the card for anything. I am going to go to the walmart that the card was purchased at to begin with and hopefully get some help, regular gift card or cash. Wish me luck!!!
