Terrible experience
Okay, these are hard economic times. Fortunately, my credit has no negatives, however, I am leveraged. I reviewed my WAMU statement and was shocked to see that my interest rate had been increased to 31.99%, with the effective APR being 34.69%. My other credit cards charge an average of 16.5%. So, I call WAMU. The nice lady reviewed my account and tells me she had no idea why I was being charged such a high rate. So I playfully ask her if WAMU is now in the loan shark business. She responded by tellng me i will receive a letter from WAMU informing me why. Anyway, I received their letter which informed me that I am a risky customer so they raised my interest rate. Well, WAMU is now in the loan sharking industry. The bright side is that they will not break your legs if you don't pay.

Wamu bites
I opened an online savings account with WAMU. Service agreement says can call and terminate account. When I went to terminate my account because of inconvenience of online setup, I told them to cancel. I transferred money out. Then I got a 4.00 fee for non-maintenance of min. balance. OVERDRAFT FOR ME! I called in and told them that I had tried to cancel this last month. They would not waive the fee and said that I had to write a letter to cancel account and send it to San Antonio Branch with a check for 3.99!!! I called back today and told them that the service agreement CLEARLY STATES THAT I CAN CALL IN TO CANCEL. No luck, still owe the fee and dang account is STILL OPEN. I mailed the letter off on MONDAY!!! WAMU BITES!!

Terrible bank
In January 2009 I noticed that my interest rate had increased from 9.95 To 21.99.% I called the customer service dept. And was told that I had until 02202009 to opt out our I had to accept the increase or close the account. Their story is that I was sent a statement in 10 2009 about the proposed increase. The notice did not come to this address or I would have closed the account immediately. I spoke with a cs representative And was advised to close the account now to avoid further increases. I closed that same day. When I asked to have my previous rate reinstated I was told that because I had closed my account I had to accept the higher rate. I have tried repeatedly to explain to these people that I knew nothing of the proposed increase but they must have stone heads because nothing sinks in. Since chase bank received a huge bail-out from the taxpayers it would seem to me that they should realize that everyone is having to watch their money and that these large increases in a monthly budget absolutely kills any hope that you will stay current with household payments. I have always paid my monthly bill ahead and more than a minimal payment. I think this is an outrage that a bank that ran itself into the ground will try to recoup out the pocket of the very taxpayers that saved their fanny. I am disabled and my only income is ss disability. What am I and all the other people that they have visited this on to do. Forget our mortgage, meds, food, or do I enhance the chase bank ceo lavish life style.

Fraudulent bank
I had my WaMu ATM card skimmed in Mexico (where I live) and the person made 5 withdrawals totaling $2, 000 US Dollars in a city four hours from where I live. I called my bank when I saw the transactions online and made a fraud report. My claim has been denied 3 times over the last month and the rejetion letter states that I "authorize the person who made the transactions to use my account". First of all, how did they come to that conclusion?? And how could they possibly conduct a thorough investigation in less than 24, which is how long it took them to send the first reection letter after I filed the claim. I have talked to about 10 customer service representatives, 5 supervisors of the claims department and have sent a signed affidavit, a 4 page letter of what happened, contact information for other peope in my area who had the same thing happen to them on the same days at the same ATM machine where I last withdrew money, plus a police report. And I keep getting the same rejection letter. One supervisor asked me to provide proof that I was in the city I live in while the transactions occurred. They have asked me to provide more information, more evidence. I have given them all I can. I asked why they didn't freeze my account or notify me when they saw 5 large transactions being made 4 days in a row...they had no comment. And to top it off, the person who had taken money out, left me in the negative and I incurred $120 in overdraft charges plus an email from my bank saying that they would report me to a credit agency if I didn't make a deposit to get out of the negative. I am beyond frustrated and cannot believe that the bank that is supposed to protect my money is not treating me, a victim of ATM fraud as guilty until proven innocent. At this point I am ready to take them to court.

Scam and cheating
I told them I had a major injury and have been out of work and that is why I have not been able to pay my monthly payments for two months. I explained to them I would have the money to pay the minimum payment of 25 dollars by the of July just two weeks shy of the date they want the money which is july 14th 2008. They refused and said if they dont get a payment by the above date they will close my account and refer it to a collection agency. In the meantime since I have had this card before my injury i had not missed one single payment, paid every payment over the minimum due and even paid half my balance this past february. I asked them to take that into consideration and they said no. I also received a letter to call them by July 14th so that they could work things out with me to keep my card active. What kind of bullshit are they trying to pull?

Interest rate and fees
Our WAMU credit card was part of the Chase/WAMU acquisition much to our delight given the unfair practices of WAMU concerning interest rates and fees. However, since our account has been moved to Chase we have found that they are not anymore willing to work with their clients than WAMU. We received our card with a 9% interest rate in 2006. Since we have made payments on time and paid more than the minimum every month. In 2008 our balance was a little over $3, 000 and I knew I was going to pay it off but it was not until 2 days after the due date. It was due on the 24th of the month and on the 26th of the month the payment posted giving us a 0 balance. The next statement our interest rate had been increased to 31.99% because our payment was 2 days late and the late fee that they assessed put us over the limit.

Before complaining I thought I would give Chase the opportunity to lower our interest rate in the hope that their policies were not as unfair as WAMU's. The rep that I spoke with told me that our interest rate would remain the same and that we had to start the process of establishing our account that we had been working since 2006 to establish. I was told that I could not talk to anyone about decreasing the rate because the account would be randomly evaluated to see if we met the qualifications, yet she was unable to give me a time frame when this evaluation would happen. When I asked why new Chase customers were given an introductory rate when they applied, but customers that were acquired from WAMU through no choice of our own, were not given the same option, I was told that Chase had their own policies but there would be no changes to the fees and policies that we had as customers of WAMU. It seems we have jumped from the frying pan to the boiling pot. Is there no end to the unfair practices of credit card companies, it is no wonder our economy is in such bad shape.

holding funds
I HAD OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH WAMU.

I GAVE THEM A CASHIERS CHECK FROM CITI BANK IT CLEARED CITI BANKS BRANCH WITH IN 3 DAYS.
WAMU HELD THE FUNDS UP TO 20 DAYS AND BLAME CITI FOR NOT RELEASING THE FUNDS WHICH WAS NOT TRUE. THEY HAD MY MONEY AND JUST WOULD NOT RELEASE IT. WHO DO I COMPLAIN TO FOR THIS.

Overdraft Fees
My checking account was used fraudulent, putting me into a negative balance and accruing multiple overdraft fees.

I contacted the source of the unauthorized charges and got them to admit the purchases were unauthorized. They refunded my money, but reported that any bank fees would have to be addressed by the bank.

I spoke to 3 separate WaMu customer service individuals, who all reported that once the original charges had been dismissed/refunded, then the bank would "forgive" the overdraft fees.

Those charges were reversed and the money credited back to me over a week ago. Today, I emailed WaMu through their website to address the overdraft fees. They responded that while they realize it's a lot of money, the source of the fraud should be responsible for paying any associated fees, and that since it was not a bank error, they are simply not going to refund the overdraft fees.

Once the source of the fraudulent charges reversed the charge, the overdraft didn't exist anymore. Yet, WaMu is still sticking me with $140 worth of overdraft fees - fees that they promised to dismiss.

So much for goodwill and customer service.

I've made a complaint about this, but I'm already making plans to switch over to Wells Fargo.
