Overdue funds
I have been waiting over a year and a half to receive my security deposit and overpayment. I was erroneously charged for the one month of free rent. I also had overpaid at the end of my lease - I should not have been charged since I had paid first and last month's rent at move-in time. My security deposit has
not even been refunded to me and I left the apartment in superb condition.
I've been trying to contact this
complex for over a year now about all of this. I also provided all of my figures and check numbers and any
other information they needed to resolve this matter. Unfortunately, I have had no responses, out of office
responses, or robotic responses claiming that they need to talk with their old property accountant since the
management recently switched. Several thousand dollars is quite a sum of money to chase around and, as a
result, I feel as though this particular complex is crooked and very mismanaged.
A taste of my actual experience there: Moving in was a nightmare. I had just leased my home to a tenant and was ready to move to this complex within two days. Unfortunately, maintenance "discovered" that the old tenant was squatting in the apartment when they went in to re-paint the apartment!
So I had nowhere to live. I was stuffed into a studio on the 14th floor (though I was paying for a one bedroom apartment). I was put in this studio to give their old tenant who was illegally squatting in my new apartment a chance to move out. ?????!!! So I had to contact the utility companies and switch my services back to the studio and then back again to my one bedroom once I finally moved into that.
Without cable in the studio that they set me up in, I had many issues - particularly since I was finishing a degree program while working a full-time job and one of my courses was an online course. I tried to do my work downstairs through their internet, but their internet was down for the entire two weeks that I lived this way.
Not only that, but my belongings were put into an apartment down on a lower level floor for storage since they could not fit into the studio where I was temporarily residing. Instead of giving me keys to that apartment so that I could retrieve something if I forgot it, the management kept the keys and I would have to run downstairs and ask them to let me in every single time.
I was an excellent tenant during my residency. My rent was always early or on time every single month. I was an issue-free resident. I deserve to be treated with the same respect that I gave to them or at the bare minimum, have this complex honor their end of the Lease (a legally binding agreement, yes?)
