Waterworks Repair Reviews

Over charged for Unsatisfactory Repair
We have a Sea-Doo (PWC) whose engine was running perfectly fine but produced almost no thrust. Upon examination I discovered the plastic Wear Ring, which forms the circumference around the Jet Pump Impeller, had deteriorated. I took it to Ben Holcomb at Waterworks Repair, 1477 East Hill Park Rd., Lewisville, TX 75056, because Ben assured me the job would be finished by Friday. Ben sold me on replacing fuel lines, changing the Pump Oil and greasing the fittings. I was told it was ready to pick up but when I arrived I was told they had bad news. The engine was seized up and wouldn’t turn over even with the spark plugs removed. Ben said the engine needed a complete overhaul. Knowing that couldn’t be the case I insisted they disconnect the pump and try the starter. When they did the engine spun freely. Obviously they had set me up or they had not reassembled the pump correctly. I had to leave it so they could correct their error.

Late on Friday I got a call the Sea-Doo was ready. This time when I arrived I noticed the steering nozzle had not been reinstalled and the mechanic had gone home. After reminding Ben he had committed to completing the job that day Ben agreed to finish the job himself. He had to hunt all over the shop to find the parts that had been removed. I watched while that assembly was completed. I insisted on seeing that the Sea-Doo would run. It did crank ok but he could hardly keep it running. I checked the spark plugs and they were not even finger tight. After tightening the plugs it ran perfectly. I was shocked when presented with a bill for $970.58.

After barely over two hours of run time the steering mechanism failed and my wife and grandson were stranded on Lake Texoma. The bottom bolt holding the steering nozzle had fallen out and the thrust of the jet caused the nozzle to break, leaving it dangling by the steering cable. The self-locking nut could be easily turned using only my fingers. This type of nut should never be reused. With regard to the bolts that hold the Steering nozzle the Sea-Doo shop manual says the following “◊WARNING: Whenever removing the screw always renew locking disks. Screw must be torqued as specified.” The text and assembly diagram also specify that that Loctite (blue locking compound) should be applied to the threads. I did not know that at the time but I observed this part of the work and know these steps were not followed.

I went back to Waterworks Repair with a diagram and list of eight parts required to properly complete the repair. I requested that at a minimum they should provide me the parts at no cost. I would get the work done myself. He said, “Ok, but it would take up to a week to get the parts”. The very last thing he said was “I’ll give you a call when they are in”. It has now been 22 days. Between my wife and me we have made ten calls and Ben has not returned our calls. I was told by a female who answered that, “If Ben ordered the parts then he is the only one who can tell you if the parts are in”. Later when my wife tried to get a status the female who answered hung up on her. Obviously Ben has no intention of doing the right thing nor does he have any intention of honoring his committment.

I would advise everyone to steer clear of this place. They are disorganized, they try to sell repairs that are not needed, they do sloppy work, they do not follow specified procedures and they grossly over charge.

Unauthorized charges
Waterworks Repair is absolutely the sloppiest ran boat mechanic/detail shop I have ever experienced. I recently had my boat up for sale and had some minor detailing that needed to be done. My current marina recommended Waterworks Repair in Lewisville, TX. They just recently replaced Marine Max at Pier 121.

Ben Holcomb is the owner of Waterworks Repair and our first meeting he seemed to be a nice good ole guy. He gave me a quote for some small scratches that needed to be removed along with some other minor repairs.

The total amount he told me was $1, 500. I thought this was extremely high but again he came with high regards. So we agreed. I wanted the boat to be perfect for my buyers out of state. he assured me it would be. About a week or so later I get a phone call from Ben stating its going to cost closer to $2, 000. I told him this is not what we agreed on etc...

We ended that conversation and they continued to work on my boat. Throughout this process I had several other small things done to the boat. Ben never will call you back when he says he will. You can't leave a message on his cell phone because his mailbox is full.

The two ladies who answer the main phone are the only decent people at the shop from my experience.

So, I continue to do my best talking with Ben and Kurt to have additional items fixed on the boat. Once I get the final bill for the boat there are several charges that I didn't authorize. One charge was for $28 worth of fuel and a labor charge of $48 dollars to put fuel in the boat! Evidently the boat ran out of gas on a lake test that I found about from the out of state buyer. I was never even aware nor did I authorize this charge.

They also replaced the anti siphoning valve. I was told by Kurt that it was a $2 part and takes minutes to install. I said go ahead and do it. Once the bill arrives there was no charge for the part but a labor charge for $238!! I called several big boat mechanic shops and they all quoted 1/2 hour labor to install. Waterworks labor rate is $95. you do the math. That dollar amount was never authorized by me.

So now it's time for my happy new boat owners to come pick up there boat from out of state. They two had a very hard time getting anyone to call them back from waterworks. They even sent an email 2 days before to Ben saying they are on there way and please have everything ready.

Once the buyer gets there the first thing he notices is the boat has not even been detailed, waxed etcc!! He drove 13 hours straight to get there. Now, in the mean time for the past couple days I had agreed to pay what I authorized Waterworks to repair etc..

Ben, tells my buyers they can't take the boat because the bill is not paid. Ben finally agrees to lower the bill to my satisfaction. Obviously Ben lowered the payment because he knew I didn't authorize some of the charges.

So...it gets better...I get a call from the buyers wife and she tells me the next morning that Waterworks Repair lost both poles to prop the boat cover...She also tells me the cover was left off the boat for two days before they picked it up! it rained those last 2 days.

Now remember, Ben and Waterworks knew they were coming because they sent an email since Ben would not call them back.

On top of that, Ben is trying to detail the boat while the buyer waits and offers him a beer! Nice professional touch there Waterworks Repair!

The boat was never properly detailed and or waxed according to the new owners of there boat.

Waterworks is very unorganized, sloppy, overpriced and tried to charge me for work that I never authorized.

I would never recommend Waterworks Repair.
