WARNING TO ALL REGARDING THIS COMPANY AND CONTACT NAME SOLICITING FOR A PAYMENT MANAGER/PROCESSOR:
After receiving a solicitation email from "Alfonso Martinez" because of my resume on Career Builder (This was a first- I have received hundreds, perhaps thousands, of other email solicitations for various obvious scams, but never from a legitimate job site.), I googled the company name and found what appeared to be a legitimate website, purporting to be for a web design company. In their "careers" section, there was even a posting for the the above position, as well as other technical positions. At that time (July 10, 2009) I found no negative search hits on this "company". In hindsite, of course, I should have waited.
Everything seemed plausible so far, needing even to sign an agreement and contract for the position. My wife, however, had lived in Madrid >30 years ago and remembered no delay problems (This was the reason "Martinez said a US "payment processor" was needed.) with US checks deposited in Spanish banks - Obviously, I should have heeded my wife's concern and at least waited more time for the checks to clear my account. As with one of the others above, I received 2 checks - these were forwarded by "Martinez" from Spain, ostensibly because the "customers" had made them out to me as payee, but had mailed them to Madrid "in error" (Sorry for all the " "). I deposited the 2 checks immediately, and my bank put a 2 day hold on one (HI bank) and a 6 day hold in the other (VA bank). In two days my bank had given me "credit" for the one of the checks, so I impatiently went to Western Union and wired the amount (less commission) to VLADAS BAKSENSKAS ("Martinez" said he was an agent for the company.) in Dublin Ireland. I SHOULD HAVE WAITED - the next day, one of the checks was returned to my bank unpaid. So far the second check has not been returned. BEWARE. GH
