high health care costs
Wellpoin/Anthem, made 3.3 BILLION, in PROFIT in 2007. They have only been allowed legally to be a publically traded company on Wallstreet for less than 10 years. Now that they are a public company, Wallstreet expectations control their decisions. They must now make more money every year or their stock value will go down. How does an insurance company make more money every year? It must either increase premiums or they must slash claims payments.
Wellpoint announced at the end of the first quarter of 2008 their expected profits were going to be less than projected. Instead of making 3Billion in Profit this year they would ONLY make 1 BILLION. Their stock value dropped 47%. Since one BILLION is not encough they announced they were dropping some contracts and would be reviewing more carefully neonatal and oncology claims(translation: more claims denied) All of this while Wellpoint's Board and executives have tens of millions in stock options. Guess what they care about. Last year Wellpoint's CFO had to "leave" because of sexual discrimination claims against him. He left with 118 million.

Terrible treatment!
I worked for Wellpoint for about 4 years and had a great job. I loved working in my department and was very comfortable. I became TOO comfortable, had a couple of life changes and needed to pursue some career changes and opted to apply to another position in the company that had different responsibilities and more pay.

I found that position in a different part of the company with more pay, did a great interview, was promised more pay within 90 days of my start date of the new position and opportunities of advancement within the department. I was ecstatic. I moved to the new department and all hell broke loose.

I went from a cooshy, great paying job to a job with short tempered, rude disrespectful supervisors. Our trainers were great, but had a short time limit to train a group of us. We were rushed to be put on the phones before we were ready and were told that we would be 'chained' to our desks and would have to log the minutes we left our desk (even to use the bathroom), and had to meet strict deadlines.

Not only that, but I never got the raise, and my new supervisor told me that I wouldn't see one for at least another 2 to 3 years. I was also told that she wouldn't allow me to leave my department for at least another couple of years.

My supervisor was just given her title and was more than happy to remind us of that several times daily. She was hispanic and me being african american, sitting across from another hispanic girl, (her not knowing I understand spanish), she would come and talk to the girl across from me in spanish saying some inappropriate things sometimes.

I would speak to her supervisor and after several conversations...it was like talking to a wall. I told her that I was looking for another job. I then spoke with Human Resources to make sure there was nothing I could do. Human Resources informed me that I couldn't do anything about the lies that I was told.

I couldn't apply for a different position without my new supervisors approval, even though she lied to me, and I would have to give her a 2 weeks written notice. THIS was not fair. I asked Human Resources if a 2 weeks notice via email would work and they told me yes, so that is what I did.

I sent my supervisors' supervisor an email. I ended up having to walk off the job before then due to her getting in my face telling me to (in her words and putting her finger 1 inch in my face) 'go sit down in your seat and WAIT TILL SOMEONE COMES OVER THERE TO HELP YOU' like I was 2 years old... because I had a question... I had to leave or put my hands on her. I just grabbed my stuff and left.

She told me that she was gonna put me as non-re-hireable. So I am non-re-hireable for LIFE with Wellpoint because I was 'bullied' and not liked by a supervisor who was eventually fired for doing the same thing to more employee's. This, is not fair. This has messed up MY reputation with a company who I enjoyed working for and has left a bitter taste in my mouth ever since.

Human Resources does not care about their employee's if they can't stop and take the time to find out what is going on with their employee's. They need to investigate more thoroughly because they are losing a lot of good people!

Unauthorized charge!
As a new new subscriber to the Medicare part D drug coverage I had been ordering a very expensive medication through their "preferred mail order pharmacy". After several months with no problems they sent a bill for a significant amount several weeks AFTER the monthly order was: placed, received, and paid for with a credit card. Their phone response to my inquiry was that the price had increased between the time of order and shipment (about 2 days). I checked with the manufacturer and that was not true, although retailers can charge what ever they want! (read "whatever they can get away with") I don't know about every state but here it is called "bait & switch" which is illegal. I told them no less that 5 times to send me a written explanation which they never did. Strangely, the billing for the following months was at the original price. After 4 months of them sending the same bill they resorted to charging the amount to my credit card. This, of course, is unconscionable, unethical, and ILLEGAL! In every phone call (which I made sure they were recording) I pointed out that if they did that I would take legal action. (Obviously I had the credit card company put the matter in dispute and remove the charge.) About 4 weeks after I sent a strongly worded letter as a precursor to legal action I got a call on my machine that they were canceling the charge. BUYER BEWARE! These people are either crooks or idiots. (It goes without saying that I am no longer a client).
