Never use them
You would think that the people that work for them have never had anything happen to them. Why not give someone a chance to make payments. I mean they don't even send you a bill on time and expect your payment to be on time. The way these people treat you, as if they are not human. Right now people are still loosing jobs and they can't even give you some extra time to make payments. If I knew then what I know now I would have never used them. God does not like ugly and their whole company is ugly. I swear I can't see their company staying around to much longer, If we all stick together and work with each other not to use Wells Fargo. If you know whats good for you and your credit you would not use them!

Wells Fargo Placed A Hold On My Entire Paycheck For Seven Days Starting The Day Before Thanksgiving
I am sending or posting a copy of this letter to various news agencies and sites in the hope that I can bring to light the sort of ‘business ethics (and frankly I don’t believe ‘ethics’ with its own separate caveat qualify as ethics, sorry)’ practiced by Wells Fargo bank.
My family and I are not model customers of this institution to be sure. We live paycheck to paycheck and unfortunately often a little beyond our means just to survive. We live in an apartment, have one vehicle we depend fully upon, and cannot afford daycare for our five year old daughter (and would not care to give our child over to the care of strangers if we could). As my wife makes more money than I do as a newly licensed marriage and family therapist, I am regulated to part time work, part time childcare. In a world of mounting expenses and incessant debt due to schooling, we do our best, but despite my wife having attained her masters and myself having a bachelor’s degree, it is not often enough to avoid overdrafts and late fees.
My last pay period I was given a substantial pay raise and more hours at my job, and consequently earned a more substantial paycheck. We planned to drive to Arizona for Thanksgiving (we live in California) to spend the holiday with family and my wife deposited the payroll check on Tuesday, fully two days before the holiday to give it time to clear. We were then told that Wells Fargo had decided that because the amount was over a thousand dollars and never had been before in nine months of working, that they were going to put a hold on the available funds until December 4th, a full seven business days after the deposit. This was not a partial hold. They were not holding the difference past a thousand dollars, they were holding the entire amount.
Has anyone ever had their entire payroll check held for more than three days? If you have, you know it puts a pinch on your living expenses. Now consider an extra week, the day before a holiday.
As it was past business hours, I sent Wells Fargo an email about what I considered to be a somewhat unreasonable situation – well, I had to send three emails, as the comment fields in which complaints or questions are supposed to be drafted were not large enough to fully explain my predicament. I guess I’m pretty verbose, but the character limit seemed to me almost to be designed specifically to discourage complaints and questions.
The next morning I called Wells Fargo and complained to a telephone banker and was told by her that she did not have the power to rescind the hold. She did suggest I enroll in direct deposit, but my employer as a start up company doesn’t offer it. I stated that I understood that as a teller she did not have the authority to unfreeze my money, and asked for somebody who did. I was at first disconnected. After calling back and giving the same spiel I was finally put in contact with ‘Dean’ who though polite, explained to me in a somewhat condescending manner that although I had deposited all of my payroll checks (from the same institution) with them for many months, they were having problems securing the funds from the other bank and were not going to remove the hold. He told me to go to my employer and ask for them to cancel the check they’d issued me and ask for cash. So, the policy had switched from the reason they had originally given for the hold. I was initially told that the hold was placed due to my history of overdraft fees. Now it was because the other bank was having a problem. I personally believe Wells Fargo is intent on collecting all the fees that will be incurred for the next seven days as my unavoidable bills come through. I suppose they were willing to let it go if I were able to successfully cajole my employer into incurring a canceled check fee, but is the a reasonable request for a contract employee to make of their employer in such a shaky climate of rampant unemployment as we live in today? I work for a start up company, and I’m sorry, I wasn’t about to ask my employer to go through the rigamarole of cancelling my paycheck (which was issued four days previously, I just picked it up on Tuesday to avoid the delay of the mail) and issuing me cash (!).
In the end, I am looking for a new bank. I can’t abide a financial institution who would deny a family its honest, due compensation the day before a national holiday and then have the gall to hold the entire amount for seven days. I urge anyone who reads this who is considering banking with Wells Fargo to weigh my experience in their decision. They do not have the good of their customers or the American people in mind, which is a shame as they have such a distinguished history – the sort I had thought I could trust. I am sure that Dean and all the folks at Wells Fargo will have a happy and abundant Thanksgiving. I know it in fact, because it’s on me.

Banking Misinformation/Fees charged
I have a major issue with Wells Fargo that has not been resolved. On Tuesday Nov. 17th, we deposited a check from the State of California, written to me in the amount of $950, into my mother’s account. I signed it, endorsed it to her, she signed it, and deposited into her account via ATM. We had done this previously with 5 checks from the State of CA via ATM. She originally took it into the bank, where the teller looked at the check, both front and back, and told her to go outside and deposit in the ATM, because the money would be available sooner that way (it was after 3 pm, end of banking hours).
She then went outside and deposited it in the ATM, as he suggested. The next day, the online banking said it was being “held” and the funds would be available the next day. On Thursday, she checked her account again, and it was $200 negative, and it said that check had been “returned.” We called the phone bank and were told that we are not allowed to deposit third party checks in an ATM. We explained this was strange because not only had we done this 5 times previously and everything went fine, but we were explicitly told to do this by the teller at the bank.
We went into the bank and asked what could do because we needed that money. Our banker said he could open a new joint bank account for the two of us and get the check put in immediately into (the ATM exceptions department still had the check). On their advice, we did open this joint account. We had to get a $200 cashier’s check that day, so the banker put a $475 “memo credit” on our account, in anticipation of the check going through (he had already called on the check and it was good and depositable). He then got us a $200 cashier’s check. He stated we would then have another $275 in the account and asked us if we wanted to take out the money. We told him we did, and he gave us a withdrawal slip to fill out in the amount of $275. We then went up to the teller, who informed us that we only had $75 in the account. I went back to get the banker who said he didn’t understand why it said that, but whatever the computer said was all we could take out. He also promised the rest of the $950 check ($675) would be available after midnight that night.
We checked the account online the next day, Friday, and were surprised to see the account $475 negative. Not only because he told us the check was going through at midnight, but that we had only gotten out $275 of the “memo credit.” We went back into the bank and were told the check would go through after 3 pm. We needed another cashier’s check in the amount of $600, which we were given, as another “memo credit” on the account. We were very frustrated at this point, because all this was happening because of something a Wells Fargo employee TOLD us to do. Also when we went into the bank on Friday, we talked to them about 9 overdraft fees that had occurred on my mother’s account, each in the amount of $35, because that check was returned (even though we did exactly as the teller told us to do). They told us there was nothing they could do about the overdraft fees, because we are not allowed to deposit a third-party check in the ATM. I expressed my frustration because we had done this many times before and never had an issue, and were TOLD to do it by the teller! Never once did they apologize or take responsibility for the mistake.
After 3 pm, that check was posted on the account and there was $75 in the account, which I took out. The account then should have been at $0. I checked it yesterday and it was $70 negative. It said we had 2 overdraft fees on the account! I called the phone bank and was told that the first day we went to the bank about this issue, Thursday the 19th when the banker got us the “memo credit” for a $200 cashier’s check and $75 in cash, the account went negative, and that’s where the overdraft fees came from. I explained to her that there was no actual money in the account but they were banker “memo credits” and that the banker was the one that got us both the $200 check and the $75 in cash! She said there was no note of a “memo credit” on the account.
I have now called both bankers we worked with at the Grand & Fairview branch in St. Paul, Dewey Khiev and Michael Burgher. Michael is on vacation this week and I left a message for Dewey, who was the banker that got us the joint bank account and got us the “memo credit” for the $200 check and $75 in cash. Never should we have been charged for overdraft fees. He told us that as soon as that check went in, which it did the next day, everything would come back to $0.
So now we have been charged a total of $385 in overdraft fees, which we cannot afford. Money is very tight and every penny counts. We got these overdraft fees because we did what the bank employee told us to do. The teller was asked about this and told the banker he “didn’t remember” what he told us. Again, never did they accept responsibility for anything. They are profiting from their mistake and I am absolutely angry. We have asked to talk to the branch manager multiple times, who always refuses, even though we have seen him sitting in his glass office laughing with employees and sipping on an iced coffee from Caribou (the two days in a row that we were there). Our bankers kept going into his office to see if there was anything they could do for us, and every time he said “no.”

Short Sale
Be careful of a short sale with Wells Fargo. We made a contract 15 weeks ago and still can't get closed. They refuse to talk to you and the managers will not even return your calls. We will have to buy another place so we aren't homeless (11 weeks now) for Christmas. Just say No!

Deposit Charge
I found on my statement that Wells Fargo is now charging deposit charges for depositing money in my account! I have plenty of money in my account beforehand, so the bank can't use that as an excuse for incurring this charge. What's next? I've been a client with this bank for 34 years. This is ridiculous!

lack of customer service
Ive been doing some research finally on Wells Fargo, I have been trying to refinance my condo since May of 2009, it has gone thru 4 different loan processors, each of who is not aware of the previous one's actions and of course who tell me just one more thing is needed. WHAT they dont know how to read a file or keep track of an open application??? I have now contacted the executive complaint department - well guess what == they dont respond either. Customer service must not be a priority for them! I even tried contacting the CEO number listed on line and guess what - yes, they referred me back to the Executive Complaint Dept. Im wondering if anyone really works there or if its one person who just keeps switching phone lines to answer the phone calls/complaints.!!!

Make Home Affordable
I contacted Wells Fargo on August 6th '09 to inquire about the "Make Home Affordable" program and was told I in fact did qualify. I was told to fax my information to them which I did on Aug. 6th. Since then I have faxed the info 5 more times. Once to a fax number they gave me and later said they did not recognize the number. This was all my personal and banking information sent where? They didn't know and they stated at that time they had placed my home on the foreclosure list. My home has been on and off their foreclosure list several times since. They admitted they made a mistake and would expedite my request. Ofcourse this did not happen. I simply asked for lower interest at the current rates. I feel I will eventually lose my home due to WF's deceptive practices ~ they are nothing more then predators. I have nightmares and can not sleep for fear I have made a huge mistake by contacting Wells Fargo. I have NEVER been late with a payment although my income has been reduced by over half due to the economic situation. I simply asked to be included in a mortgage streamline, a restucturing of my loan or any help at all. They have made my situation much worse and in the meantime scarred my credit score. I don't know how I can hang on much longer ~ Wells Fargo waits in the wings hoping I will default. I am a retired postal worker with over 36 years of service and fear I will be homeless soon due to WF deceptive practices.
