Wells Fargo Reviews

Fraudulent charges
I purchased a vehicle in late 2005 and used Wells Fargo as my finance company. I added the vehicle on to our existing insurance policy with Allstate and maintained that until switching agents (still with Allstate). We then changed to a family agent who placed us with TOPA/RMIS. We have never had any lapse in policy or terminations of any policy. However, shortly after we purchased the vehicle, Wells fargo has sent us letters indicating the placement of Collateral Insurance on the vehicle for failure to provide proof of insurance. OK, we thought this must be a mistake and someone's something didn't talk to the next person's somebody. We called Wells Fargo and submitted via fax the Insurance declaration page. Upon receiving our next 2 statements, we noticed the Collateral Protection charge is still factored in to the amount (nearly $2000!!!).

Then the collection calls began.

I called back to Wells Fargo and after fighting with a collection rep just to get to speak with someone regarding the insurance portion, I was finally transferred to a manager (or so I thought!) who explained that they had no record of receiving my proof of insurance. Did it just vanish into thin air? Did someone just not do their job? OK, mistakes can happen. we faxed it over again figuring this 'manager' guy should settle this once and for all. 2 months go by, 4 months go by, and still nothing taken off our bill, all the while, the collectors are steadily calling and getting more in our faces and threating us with their veil little threats, as if it were their PERSONAL automobiles!

2 months after switching to our new insurance, we receive another Collateral Protection placement letter for nearly $2000! We went through the process of calling again, this time being directed to call Balboa Insurance directly. OK, now we're getting somewhere, not. After Submitting our OLD insurance and the NEW insurance to Balboa, it seems at one point they mysteriously don't have a record of receiving it.

the next time they saw the notes in the computer where we submitted it but nothing was processed and that they would look into it. Several months had expired with nothing being deducted from our statements and now it is showing an outstanding balance just over $4500. You can imagine the flavor of the collection calls now. It was really getting nasty when we changed to our Family's private Insurance agent who placed us with TOPA. Of course we received another letter shortly after for Collateral Protection placement (can you guess how much?!)

I promptly called again, and was directed to Collections. I hung up and called Balboa directly again. This time I spoke to a representative who was only interested in receiving the proof of the current insurance coverage and would not listen or look into my claims regarding the other to CP placements. THIS TIME, THEY FINALLY showed a deduction for this 3rd CP placement amount.

I called again to resolve the previous issues, and was directed to have my Agent call. He did while I was sitting in his office. It has been almost 4 months since and things have not been resolved at all. We have followed every guideline we can and still nothing from them. Not only is their insurance outrageously high, but the internal mechanisms of communication between these 2 companies is nonexistent.

Additionally, I have previously purchased a used truck in 1997 wherein Wells Fargo was the finance company, and the same thing happened. It took them forever to get the records updated (both with Balboa, and then with Wells) to reflect the private coverage. It then took almost 2 months for the reduction to show up on my statement.

We have recently purchased a new family vehicle and again, in no more than 2 months, we received a CP letter for this vehicle. We called Balboa and got the run-around. We then had our Agent call Balboa and 2 bills later the deduction appeared. We also received a confirmation letter from Balboa rescinding the Collateral Protection on this vehicle (for now!)

In my opinion, Wells Fargo Auto Finance could be a good company to work with if they maintained their policies from a management perspective, dealing with issues of oversight fairly and not as if everyone is a criminal (guilty until you prove yourself innocent. multiple times!). They should have better communication with their partner companies. but then again, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE LITTLE GUYS WHO

PURCHASE A LITTLE CAR FROM A LITTLE DEALERSHIP. They only care about their monopolistic gains and it is just a paycheck to their representative. No wonder American jobs are getting shipped overseas at record pace! Because we just don't care enough to do our jobs properly. I can truthfully understand if I were trying to rip them off and just say 'screw them', but I am an average working class stiff, who has his financial ups and downs (who doesn't these days) but I am definately not trying to NOT pay for something I purchased.

This whole company needs to be INVESTIGATED and a little CIVILIAN OVERSIGHT immediately!

Ripped Off
we purchased a car at a dealer close out wells fargo wound up financing wells fargo bumped the interest rate up to 16.50% from 8.00% without discussing it with us, had we known it would have been a no deal, as soon as we found out about this, wells fargo was given the car back, , they tacked this on my credit file as a repo, , this all happened in 10 days!! when I tried to resolve the issue, absolutely no cooperation, The secretary at the dealership signed my name on the contract in several spaces, as I would never have agreed to this, , I filed several complaints with the state to no avail, , , Wells Fargo are thieves, even the people that work for them are ashamed of them in the Austin area, , One person fighting these large businesses will get NO where, It's going to take multiple CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS to get anywhere.

Fraudulent company
I received a convection notice from the sheriff's department that I had 10 days to be out of mail house that it had been sold to Fannie Mae. When I got to checking into this I found had the attorney's office had mailed me a notice that my house was being foreclosed on. I didn't receive mail at my home address (I have a P.O box) so there was no way that I Knew about the notice. By then it was to late.

I had gotten in touch with Fannie Mae about buying back my house but they wouldn't work with me because I hadn't mde an effort with ASC about saving my home. How can you make an effort if you know nothing about what is going on. How can the government give them 700 billion dollars for them to by up peoples homes? This is outrageous.

How can the courts allow a foreclosure to take place and the sheriff's department only receives a convection notice? Any lawyers want to help me get back my home? They are selling it for $32, 000.00 less than what they wanted me to buy it back for. They also have had the tax value lowered on the home and land also. This was my home for 4 1/2 years and loved it. Would like to buy it back but I am not sure how to go about it. It not that I can't afford it but my husband and I are self-employed so it makes it harder to apply for a loan. Any help to appreciated.

unauthorized charges and changes
Signed up for on-line banking and the bank stopped my paper billing without my authorization. Also paid auto pay when funds were not available and charged over limit fee in stead of insuffient funds fee which is much lower. This bank does not deserve a bal out or anything else except for a federal investgation for fraud !!!

Overcharged
Wells Fargo Financial Cards called me at work to collect a $35 over-the-limit charge on my credit card. By the way, I did not want the card, but it was transferred over to Wells Fargo from Lazy Boy Furniture. When I told the person that I was not at liberty to discuss the issue at work, she became rude and demanding, insisting that I settle when I was going to pay the amount then and there. I gave the collector my home telephone number (which they already had) and asked for a call-back after 6:00 pm when I would be able to discuss the call. Later, when I arrived home, I called their 800 service number because the call at work had been very distressing.

I was told by the customer 'service' rep that the $35 was the annual fee that put me over the limit. I asked her to remove that amount. She verified that I was a good customer, always paid the bill on time, etc. So she agreed to remove the $35 which put me over my credit limit. She then told me my next payment was due at the first of the month. When I went back to my personal bill file, I noted that I had already paid that bill (about two weeks before the bill was actually due). The next morning, I called the 800 number again just to verify that the charge had been removed. It had not. I once again explained to that 'service' rep all that had happened and she assured me that she would indeed remove the charge. When I asked for her last name or the name of the manager so I could be sure to follow up if necessary, she declined to give me that information.

About a week later, I started receiving phone calls from Wells Fargo Financial Cards collection again, now stating that I owed over $70 in overcharge to the account. I told them they were mistaken, but apparently 'new charges' had been added to my bill. They insisted right there and then that I make a payment arrangement. I declined, telling them that I would not make any arrangements until I actually had a bill in hand and since I had already paid the bill for that month, they would have to generate a new bill. The 'service' rep insisted that I make a payment arrangement then and there. I firmly declined and asked to speak to her supervisor. 'Michelle' came on the line and told me that I had not adhered to the terms of agreement for the card. I was also told I would receive a phone call every day until I made a payment arrangement. I asked for the name of the president of the company and Michelle LAUGHED at me, told me to have a nice day and hung up.

Through time and energy, I found the name of Anne Jackson who is supposedly the president of Wells Fargo Financial Cards. I wrote her a letter of complaint, telling her that I did not want to be contacted any further by telephone and asking that she write me a letter of confirmation. I sent the letter by certified mail and received a confirmation that my letter had been received, however, Ms. Jackson had NOT signed it. It was signed by John Pierson who probably works in the mailroom. I seriously doubt Ms. Jackson has seen my letter. And here's the reason why:

I received a letter yesterday from Wells Fargo Financial Cards informing me that my account had been closed and no further charges will be accepted on the account. (Yesterday was February 24, 2009. On February 20, 2009, I sent a payment in to them, again it was two weeks prior to when the actual payment is due.) I was instructed to destroy all my Wells Fargo credit cards and convenience checks (which I have NEVER used).

I will never do business with this bank again. I will also make it my personal campaign to tell everyone I know who is thinking about getting a credit card, applying for a mortgage, opening a checking account, investing in a CD to NOT use Wells Fargo Bank. As far as I am concerned, they are a shameful lot. I hope the next company I hear about going under on the national news is Wells Fargo Bank. They certainly deserve it.

By the way, I will be sending Ms. Jackson a second letter with half of my cut up credit card, along with several reports I've copied from Ripoff Report, and a copy of the idiotic letter I received yesterday. I will be giving her my home telephone number so that if she chooses to call (which I highly doubt she will) I can ream her and her company good.

overdraft fees
Received an email saying I was overdrawn & please deposit funds to cover. Checked both our accounts-nothing short. Our phone isn't working so I emailed bank -so many times we get these overdradt notices & there is nothing overdrawn-figured it was another error. I knew I had about $14. bucks, I deposited a $10.00 rebate check, went to the store spent about $5.00, stopped at the other store spent about $10.00, get home, sign on to see how close to broke I was, & big surprise! Things are different, Bank had charged a $30. fee for an advance, overdrawing me & charged $35.00. I emailed again-angry-told bank they can't charge me a fee because they charged me a fee that did not need to be charged. They said no. Next day-things are changed AGAIN, it shows I repaid $100. advance plus a $30. advance fee(should have been $10.) with about $14.00 remaining.Made a copy of this.I replaced the 2 store amounts & emailed bank about the error. Nailed me again w/2 more overdrafts. I told them it's wrong & I'm not paying. No more ripping me off. There was no overdraft.Anything that went out had a deposit with it.Bank changes dates & lineup of charges, things disappear so you don't know it was ever "pending", too many tricks to keep up with. On SSDisability & am very careful-can't afford od fees!

Two Years of Denial
On February 4, 2009 I requested an extension on my auto loan. I had been told just a week before that I was eligible for an extension. I was denied the extension because I lost my job in August of 2008 and my income is actually 440.00 less per month now. My income was registered as $1500.00 less per month by the customer service person who entered my request for an extension. I purchased the car with my ex-husband in August of 2006. We separated and our divorce was finalized on March 30, 2007. I immediately called Wells Fargo to request a Refinance because I got the car and the payment in the divorce settlement. At the time I had made every payment on time and paid a little extra each time, my account was set up on an automatic withdrawl from my savings account. My request for refinance was denied because I was "$6000.00 upsidedown in the car. Meaning the car was worth about 12, 000.00 and my payoff was $18, 000.00. I was told today that I got upside down by not paynig on time. This was amazing to me considering I had made all my payments on time. I needed a cheaper payment because my ex-husband made $60, 000.00 a year and I make about $20, 000.00. Needless to say it did not take long for me to start making payments late because I could not get enough money together to pay on time. I have made payment arrangements time and again to catch up. I have remarried and I could get back on track with an extension. This would give me the time to recover from late fees and start making payments on time again. For over two years now I have been continuously harrassed by phone calls and messages. They nearly caused my ex-husband to loose his job by calling him at work. I have been talked down to and degraded by almost every representative I have spoken to. A Manager even told me that I had take responsibility and stop taking a free ride in their vehicle. I relize the is a car and not a house, but for the mainstream American a car is the second biggest purchase after a home. It seems to me that if a company lends money on a vehicle knowing that you will owe more than the car is worth as soon a you drive off the lot, they should have a responsibility to help you make affordable payments, just as the hone lenders should have been doing.

DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY!
I was a phone banker at wells fargo and first off, they pretty much lie to you during the interview. They try to say it is all about customer service but all the job is, is referring products and services that 90% of the time the person does not need. And they are very aggressive about it but during the 6 weeks of training you pretty much don't learn anything about the products so you are just pulling info out of your ass and if you ask for more information about anything you just get brushed off.

They have schedule "bids" where you are supposed to get to bid on a schedule before it is offered to the new hires (new training classes with 10-20 people every two weeks- should have been a huge warning sign) but the only schedules they offer the people already working there are the bottom of the barrel with the new hires having the most coveted spots.

People were getting fired around me left and right for believing information that my supervisor gave them. More than one person called in to find out if they had enough points to call in (our attendance was based on a jacked up points system) and she would tell them they had plenty only to call them later that day and say they were fired because of attendance.

We have our calls recorded and are graded on them. There was a discrepancy in our Virtual Library which is pretty much the phone bankers bible which resulted in a call of mine receiving a zero which is really bad, obviously. About 5 team leads, managers and even our centers QA expert agreed that it was mis-scored but my supervisor could not even comprehend what we were saying at all. She finally agreed to file a dispute. They next day I had to go to a meeting with my supervisor and her manager about the call and I explained what all we had discussed and said that we had filed a dispute and my supervisor looked at me like I was an idiot and said that we did not that I should have received the zero. Then two days later I walk in and get a hug and a congrats from that same supervisor because my dispute was found in my favor. The dispute that was never filed.

I finally got completely fed up and put in my two weeks and was told that I should probably leave. Knowing that if our supervisor tells us to leave in this situation they still have to pay the two weeks (she does this with everyone who quits- which is a lot of people) I try to verify that I would get paid and she said that was impossible but that I should still probably go. I had a training class for the job i had secured as a replacement in exactly two weeks and could not go without that money and had told her that upfront. I told her that if she wouldn't pay me I was staying. She was really mad. She told me that I shouldn't have put in my two weeks and I should have just left when I wanted. I explained that I was following company policy. She then tried to say I should go so I could start my job earlier and I explained for the 3rd time it didn't start for two weeks. She just got all huffy and left (early as usual) for the day soon after. I found in our handbook the policy regarding the pay situation and emailed it too her and left.

For the next 3 days i was trying to get ahold of my hr consultant only to be told that he was on leave. So I finally got ahold of his supervisor who was incredibly rude and put out that I was even talking to her. The next day I get a message on my phone that she talked to my supervisor and her manager and that my supervisor had begged me to stay and that both of them had been trying to call me everyday multiple times a day. And that I had abandoned my job and I would not be getting paid. And that I shouldn't call her back.

I did try to call her back repeatedly because I had phone records proving that no one tried to call me at all. (I did receive one call after the hr lady talked to them- full of fake concern about my well being and stating that they had been trying to get ahold of me- thru telepathy I guess).

Finally the only person in the company that seemed genuine at all, the hr consultant from the lubbock phone bank called and actually listened and within the day called me back telling me I was right and I would be getting paid. She said she had to go higher than usual because she kept getting the run around. She was amazing and I can't thank her enough.

This company is shady. I would not even recommend banking with them.

Unauthorized charges
We have been banking with Wells Fargo for about six months, and we are planning to close our accounts and move them asap. They are the worst bank we have ever been involved with. They hold direct deposits from my wife's job (the county's largest most stable employer) so they can post more items and generate overdraft fees. Also, when we attempt to keep careful track of inflow and outflow, items that were not there, for example at 9am when the account is checked and a deposit is made, later in the day has a withdrawal that supposedly posted at 2am thus generating an overdraft fee because it was before the deposit. Also, I have to cash my paycheck at another bank and deposit the cash because they will hold my check as well, even though we were told that after a probation period then your regularly deposited paychecks will be credited the same day. That was a lie. In this day and age of electronic banking no bank should hold electronic funds or have to wait 24 to 48 hours to process a check. Most businesses, such as dish network for example, can electronically process your check immediately without physically sending it. If they can do it why not a large bank. Also, what ever happened to picking up the phone and calling to confirm funds if you are concerned. As a consumer, when you do not know what your funds are doing because the bank is manipulating them any way they wish, it is time to vote with your pocketbook and take your business elsewhere.
