We hired this company to do some landscaping and outdoor construction . They rebuilt the front porch and the back porch. The front porch was done decently, except for one step which warped. The back porch steps were constructed from a kit (which we didn’t know at first) and were put in incorrectly.

We complained to the company owner, which had done the bulk of the work, about the extremely steep pitch of the steps and were told that they were fine. They were not fine. We have a young son that could fall down those steps and be injured. Any of us could fall down those steps and be injured. This company, particularly, its principle, Mark Wilbur, was paid in full and on time for his services. He had presented himself as honest and competent.

Around Christmas, last year, he started harassing us on the phone for payment. We didn’t understand this, because any payment arrangements that my husband made with him were always kept! He got his payment, but refused to return our calls regarding the poorly done step construction.

We called several times to no avail. We will now have to have those steps removed and new ones built by someone else. We will also have to have the one step on the front porch replaced. We are extremely disappointed by all this, because we truly thought we had found an honest contractor.

Obviously we were duped. From now on we will get several references before we hire anyone to do anything. In fact, we have since hired a couple of people to do some work and we made sure we did just that. Live and learn.
