Sales pitch
My husband, my mother and our two kids (one and four) were about to buy tickets for the riverboat when a gentleman approached us and promised to give us free tickets to the plantations in new orleans. He said if we sat thru a 90 minute presentation with no obligation to buy he would give my husband and I a free 100 dllr gift card and one for my mother in addition to the tickets. I said no due to the age of my children. They can barley stand still for five minutes let alone 90 minutes. He said not a problem, they don't mind kids and have some where they can play while we sit thru the pitch. That is the only reason I agreed. As soon as he got our info he personally put us in a cab and told him where to take us no charge to us. Once in there, a lady came in and when she saw the kids had a dreaded look in her eyes. She lead us to a small conference room with round tables. Everything started out ok with her asking personal questions about our vacation habit. I explained to her since I had been out of work for 15 months we don't take that many anymore and that we couldn't afford extra bills. She spent about an hour explaining points and where these resorts are located every now and then stating "oh there is a small fee for this but its really small" never telling us what the fee is. I counted five "small fees" that we didn't need to worry because the were SO small. After an hour and a half my kids started getting really antsy my one year old crying like a baby would if they were bored/peed/hungry. At this point my mother got up to walk her around to calm her down. This seemed to annoy the sales lady. Then she got up and went to get a form for us to fill out for her to run our credit without even asking if we wanted it ran. I straight out told her not to run my credit because I wasn't interested. Then she stated she would run my husbands credit and he said no as well. At this point I figure we are done because we both said no. I get up and go to the restroom and when I came back she said all she needed to do was show us the rooms in that resort. We walked around the place which had really small rooms. My daughter and son started acting up and crying because at this point two hours had passed and they were starving. She said we were almost done yet again. I walked out and left my husband in there to get the gift cards. I was trying to calm my kids down. After about 15 minutes he walks out and states I have to sign off that we don't want the timeshare. I am fuming at this point. I sit back down and now a second sales lady comes and tries to redo the pitch again. I explain that I have two kids outside with my mother who need to get fed, she proceeds to tell my she is contractually obligated to tell my what I am missing out on. She states the people who sent us there should have told us it would be about two hours. Bad idea. I go off on her telling her I refuse to sit there for another two and a half hours and if she can't take no for an answer she can stick her gift cards where the sun don't shine. I was not about to let my kids stay hungry for her to try and get a commission out of me. So now I am screaming at her, people are looking at us and she is acting all annoyed that I have to take care of my kids. Finally she asked us to sign so we can leave. Three hours later, all we get is one 100 dllr gift card and a cruise. I would have left earlier had they not paid for the cab to bring us there and take us back. These people do not like hearing no for an answer, they are very pushy and get annoyed if you stand your ground. Not only did we not get plantation tour tickets, my mother didn't even get her gift card. These timeshares are a scam. If you ask the right questions you see that in order to have a "free" anytime vacation you have to upgrade and upgrade which include so many fees that over time make you end up paying way more than you would a normal vacation done on your own. When I asked the sales lady if she owned one she said no. Makes you wonder. Say yourself the hassel.
