I retired from a major US corporation in 2006 after more than 30 years of service. In May of 2007 I was contacted by the Payroll Department of this company that claimed that I owed them over $2, 400. When I asked them to explain their claim in a response letter I never received a reply. In January, 2008, I received a notice from a collection company threatening to contact the major credit rating companies with this "unpaid debt".
In my 30+ years of employment I NEVER witnessed this company pay an invoice without proper documentation. Why am I not afforded the same consideration? How can I prevent my excellent credit rating from being damaged? How can I get them to listen?
