As of today, Feb 26 2011, all YouTube accounts (existing ones included) must be cross-linked with a Google account or they can't be accessed. To "confirm" the link they ask for your mobile phone # to send you a voicemail or text message containing an activation code. In other words you can't use a made-up number. The fact that Google is trying to blackmail us into using all their services as a package deal whether we want them all or not is irritating enough. Asking for information that's one step away from our names and addresses - not usernames, not IP addresses, our real names and where we live - is an outrageous violation of privacy. They promise to keep it all confidential of course, which makes me feel so much better. No big corporation or government agency has ever let private information fall into the wrong hands. It's unthinkable!
To hear it from them you'd think that calling people up on their cell phones was the only effective way to keep bots from running amok and creating massive numbers of new accounts. That's the closest thing to a logical explanation they offer for this ridiculous policy. But if you're looking for a way to contact Google and register a complaint well ... there isn't one. They've got their support page set up so you can only get help on things they feel like helping you with. Every thread dealing with the forced linking on their own forum has been locked by administrators to stop people from posting any more comments; however you can still read the ones that came in before that, and most of them are pretty scathing.
If anyone at Google should happen to read this, refusing to acknowledge a problem doesn't erase it from existence. People aren't going to quit complaining after a while and just accept this. You're creating a golden opportunity for the competition to gain market share. If things stay the way they are right now, come summer at least one rival site will have surpassed YouTube in total number of views per day. And you'll have no one to blame but yourselves for making it possible.

Every time I use youtube's audioswap program, the song is always missing like 3-4 seconds at the end. I personaly don't think that they should be allowed to post advertisements on my video, if there not going to give me the whole song.

THEY CLOSED MY ACCOUNT FOR NO REASON THERE WAS NOTHING THAT VIOLATED GUIDELINES. NO REASON GIVING, NO ONE TO TALK TO..BEEN WITH THEM FOR 3 YEARS, AND I ADVISED ANYONE WITH THEM NOW THEY CAN CLOSE YOUR ACCT. WHEN EVER THEY WANT FOR NO REASON. YOUTUBE GO F+*& YOURSELF, IM GLAD THERE ARE MANY OTHER BETTER SITES OUT THERE.
