Damaged Items
This company was in constant contact with me PRIOR to the move and unavailable after my damaged items arrived. I contracted with them for a move from Atlanta to Las Vegas in January 2010. ALL my high ticket household items were damaged: refrigerator door arrived with numerous dents and pieces missing, washing machine knobs broken, furniture gouged, and one my prized art pieces was smashed to bits. I followed the instructions that Paul Bedi, manager, to complete a report and submit. It would take "6-8 weeks" for claim to refund the $1, 600 worth of damage. It is now JULY of 2010. Up through April, I had been EXTREMELY patient as I know that things can get backed up. I called and spoke to Jason, who was "filling in" for Paul Bedi and was working to get things rectified. I was PROMISED that my claim would be completed within 3 weeks. Never happened. I've left numerous messages with Shelly, their receptionist. Only days ago, I called, the line was picked up and then I was hung up on. I called back and all calls go to voicemail. Not only does this company have the worst customer service, but the fact that someone can damage personal items that can never be replaced and treat them with such disregard is a personal character flaw. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. My hope is that all the people who work for this company reap what they have sown.

Financial Fraud
Paul Bedi (Zen Van Lines owner) created fraudulent corrupted system. He pays extra money for his drivers (Steve Miller and his brother-in-law, Also Steve), who mislead clients on truck size, weight and route of delivery. If his team arrived in standard 26’ Penske truck remember that total volume of the truck is less than 1700 cubic feet (not 2500 as their driver declares). The empty weight of the truck is 14, 000-16, 000 lbs (not 10, 000-12, 000 lbs since they disposition wheels at weigh station for 10% bonus). Be prepared that Paul will declare that his team was waiting for you for several hours ($100/h) and insisted on buying extra boxes at 10x price. If this looks familiar report directly to Atlanta division of FBI, Atlanta Division of Department of Transportation and Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Atlanta Office of FBI has already Zen Van Lines file. Call directly to their Atlanta office (404) 679-9000 and request agent to add information to Zen’s file, send them clear report. They are looking for additional information. You may call and send report to Thomas Marlow, Division Administrator at Georgia Division of DOT. Call their general number 678-284-5130 and request to talk directly to Thomas Marlow or his agents and file written report. His address is 1745 Phoenix Blvd, Suite 380, Atlanta GA 30349. They also have a file and collect information on Zen Van Lines and Paul Bedi.

Also, do not hesitate to file a small claim trial at local courts. It costs just ~ $100, but may bring you back thousands of dollars.

If you have worked for Zen Van Lines and had the same observations, please call directly to FBI and DOT and add your information to their files.

Thank you
Mike

Complete Rip off
This company is a big scam

I am not accustomed to moving and what happened to move was totally unexpected and an experience that I will never forget. I lost my job in Laredo, Texas due to the economy and was forced to move me and my family back to chicago to an area where my union seniority with my company would allow me to excercise my rights and go back to work. all of this was done at my own expense and so I shopped around on the internet for a moving company.

Through my searching i found a company that was called nationwide moving services and the lady that helped me there was named lisa. She gave me a quote after I explained to her what Items i had to move and I told her that she was considerably higher than a competitor and she told me to fax her their quote and she would beat it. I faxed it to her and she came back with a lower price and I accepted it. I did a little research on the company and they had some coplaints, but nothing super serious so I accepted their offer and signed a contract with them.

My move was scheduled for April 4, 2009 at 1600 hours and the movers called me about an hour prior to that to say that they were running a little behind and that they would not be there until 1800. the movers showed up at 2300 hours on april 4, 2009 and needless to say, we were starting this relationship off on a bad foot. when the movers arrived they handed me another contract and said that I had to sign it. I replied that i had already signed a contract with your company and they stated that they were from zen van lines and not nationwide moving services.

I did all of my own packing and the computer (which was stolen by the moving company) was already packed away and I had no ability to research this company at this late juncture so I signed the contract and expected them to be as courteous as nationwide moving services was to me over the phone. I was in for a rude awakening. they came in and started loading my things at a snails pace and we were up until 0730 the next morning until they got the truck loaded up.

The movers took off and I did not hear from them again for almost a week which was fine because me and my wife were going to take our time driving up to chicago and visit a few folks on the way home. the manager (paul Badi), whom the assistant shelly and alex keep insisting is the owner, called me and said that my things were weighed and that I would have to pay an additional 1700 dollars on top of the quoted amount of 1830 dollars in order to take delivery of my belongings. I objected to this weight discrepency and asked for a re-weigh in my presence (FMCSA regulation) and I was told that I could have it and no additional cost for this service was discussed.

The driver arrived and came to the agreed upon storage facility drop location and I showed up to meet him. I talked to him and told him what his boss must have forgotten to communicate with him, and that is that I was scheduled to have a re-weigh. the driver said sure and that we had to use a cat certified scale and I said do you know where one is. his response was yes and so I followed him to peotone, illinois to a scale where the re-weigh was done ahd the scale showed that his weight was off by about 1250 pounds (about 450 bucks) in my favor. the drive got upset at this point and said that it did not matter what the scale showed, he was going to charge me an additional 300 dollars for inconveniencing him in addition to the already inflated amount.

I was pissed. I asked to speak to a manager and he stated that he was the manager and his decision was final. I told him that it was too late for me to go to the bank and get more money out and all I had on me was the overinflated amount that he asked for enroute to the storage and that he would have to put the other 300 dollars on my american express that was used for deposit. he said that if I dont give him cash then he is leaving and he left.

I called the office about 1000 times that night and the next morning and never got an answer until almost two days later. this time Paul Badi answered the phone and he said that his driver felt threatened and that he was not going to give me my stuff unless I give him 9044 dollars. I had some pretty expensive and pretty hard to find items on the truck and he knew it and he knew that I would pay it, even if it meant that me and my family have to struggle more while I am moving from state to state so I agreed to his ransom request and said that I will deal with him later in court or on sites like this.

The next delivery came on a friday on April 17, 2009 and prior to delivery I told his office that I would pay the driver with a cashiers check just like the contract stated I could and Paul and his staff were ok with that. when the driver showed up and I tried to hand him the cashiers check he then became another example of how this company is run and tried to drive off with my stuff again and said this is non negotiable and that I would only accept cash. I explained to him that no sane person walks around the city of chicago with 9000 dollars in cash on them and that a cashiers check is just as good as cash. He refused to accept it and again the banks were closed and it was too late to cash the cashiers check and again I worried about getting my things.

The office said that it would cost me 15000 dollars to get my things if they cant have cash and I asked them to have the driver rest until the morning, at which time I will go into the bank and cash the cashiers check and they agreed. the following morning I went to the bank and got the cash and paid the fellows to start unloading my things at a Public storage facility in tinley park, il. the crew did the unloading and they left

I went to the pulic storage two weeks later and needed to find some important papers and my father in law needed my dryer. I went to retrieve the items and while going through the storage unit, i did not notice the boxes that were marked television or computer. I pulled everything out of the storage unit and still no televisions or computer. I called the police and they did a police report and then I told my wife to contact Zen Van Lines after the holiday to start the claims process (according to the contract we have nine months to file). My wife called me at work and said that the company has refused to give us any claim forms and that our lost or stolen articles were not there problem. I was again pissed and here I am on this site doing something about it and hoping to inform any and all consumers to stay away from this company. there are several stories just like mine on www.ripoffreport.com and this site as well as the better business bureau (which is a joke) of folks getting ripped off by this company in the same manner that I did. Beware and the FMCSA outlines how you avoid these rogue moving companies that show up in rental trucks and rip you off for your goods. the link is http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/

movers
RIP OFF, from the word go!!!
They quoted us 800 dollars for a move from chicago to austin. Picked up our stuff and drove it to atlanta- then preceded to tell us our shipment was... not 2000lbs they quoted... but 5000 lbs. and would now cost us not 800$ but now $3186.00. When we argued they simply said we have to pay to receive our stuff. THen charged us 300$ for a reweigh, and the weight ended up being... not 5000lbs like they said... but 2920lbs, they said they would only charge us 1720.50 for the total move.We used our credit card for the 1720.50.
Then - 2 days latter... was charged $3280.00. they also delivered our belongings with NO inventory at all... we don't even know if we have all our stuff. We are currently in dispute. Since we used our credit card we have rights and our credit card is now working with us to resolve this issue.

Awful company
Working with Zen Van Line was truely a nightmare. We moved from Atlanta GA to Los Angeles CA. This company worked with a local broker named Erine McNab who looks knowledgeable and professional. The way they got people's business was to provide a lower price estimate and also promised you it is a 'Guaranteed Not to exceed estimate'. The pick up date was scheduled on February 23rd 1:00~3:00pm but the movers didn't show up until 9:00pm. It was 6 hours late.

The delivery window was set up for March2nd ~9th. However, after they got all my stuff I received a call from Zen Van Line few days later. They told me the actual weight of my stuff was more than double times heavier than the original estimation so they need to charge $4000 more (The original quote was $2100). Me and my husband were so mad and regret to use this blood-sucker. This company was such a scum. They hostage people's stuff and then threaten with more money.

We know our stuff didn't weight that much. This company just lied and made up excuses in order to ask for more money. We kept bargaining the price with CEO, Paul Bedi and end up paid $4200 on delivery day March 25th that is 3 weeks delay. The purpose I file this report is to warn other innocent and honest people who intend to move. Please!! Hire a bigger and reputable moving company. There are many bad guys out there. They set traps and wait for you to jump in.

Movement and Delivery
I have to move from Atlanta to Chicago. I ask this company about the quote. They gave me the quote. The amount in the quote was $ 800/=. The day before the pick up, they called me and told me that there people will come at around 11 AM. But they came at around 4 PM. It clearly shows that they are absolutely unprofessional. And they packed everything and then they have gone. I paid them $ 500/=. Once I moved to Chicago, I called them for the number of times. But they don't even call me. At last, when I reached them and ask them to deliver my luggage, they told me that you have to pay $ 700/=. So, the total became $ 1200/= ( $ 500/= which I have paid and $ 700/= which he was asking). I asked the reason about that. He gave me stupid reasons. He told me that you have missed the delivery date and the luggage was more than decided in the quote. But actually, the luggage was much less than in quote. In the quote we have decided 5 boxes but there was only 2 boxes. Initially during the quote. we have decided that if I am not able to take the delivery on the target date, he will charge $ 100/= more. So, total it becomes $ 900/=. But he charged $ 300/= more. He told me that give me the amount which I asked you otherwise you will loose your luggage. The other worst thing is that he didn't provide me the form for claiming my damaged luggage. I don't what he has done with that. He has also never provided me the original receipt of the amunt which I paid to him. I would like to advice that never go this company. He will give provide quote with the amount which must be less than other movers but in turn it will become much higher as compared to other company.

terrible business practices
Zen Van Lines is the most unethical company i have ever dealt with. It took them 3 weeks to deliver my stuff when i was told only 1 week. They over charged me...after an underestimation to get the business. I was told i wouldn't be charged for 8 extra boxes and was. When i disputed they just said they wouldn't unload my stuff. I paid to have stuff packed and unpacked, but when they delivered it was 1 person. They dropped my stuff and left. I gave them a claim for damage which i paid full coverage and I have heard nothing back and they will not return my calls!!! DON'T USE THEM...they act like a big company, but they have 2 people in an office and a knuckle head running a small warehouse. Take my advice use someone else!!!

Terrible Experience With Zen Van Lines
This the worst company I ever have seen. They are literally unethical. They follow the worst business practice. They virtually keep me hostile.

I have moved from Atlanta to Chicago. For moving my luggage, I gave contract to Zen Van Lines. I discussed with Paul Bedi (CEO of Zen Van Lines) about my luggage. It was less than 2000 lbs. He told me that there will flat $ 800/=. And they will come to pick up my luggage on October 31, 2008. They told me that they will come to pick up at 11:00 AM. But they came at 4:00 PM in the evening. Then, they charged $ 30/= extra for the boxes. At the tiem of pick up, I paid him $ 500/=. We have decided that your shipment will reach to Chicago by November 2, 2008 and if you are not able to take the delivery on November 2, 2008 then they will charge extra $ 100/= for the storage. After October 31, 2008, I called Paul Bedi a number of times but he never called me back. At last after calling at his office for 10 times, I was able to talk to him. He told me to send my address of Chicago. I sent him my address on November 11, 2008. Then he told me that I will have to pay $ 707/=. I was just get socked about this. He never told me even when they came to pick up my shipment. I asked him the reason. He gave me some stupid reasons and I can't be able to do anything since my shipment was with him. He told me that there was some additional luggage. But I know that the total weight of my shipment was less than 2000 lbs. And we have decided $ 100/= for the storage. But he charged additional $ 200/= for that also. He literally threatened me that if you want your luggage, give me the amount otherwise you will loose your shipment. Even after I told him to pay the amount which he told me, he took 4 days to deliver my shipment. The estimate included packing, unpacking, loading and unloading. But they didn't do unpacking. They just dump my shipment in my apartment. They didn't give me a form for the claiming.

I have moved for a number of times. But this was one of the worst exeperience of my life.

Terrible experience
This is a performance summary of Art of Zen Movers in my relocation to Sacramento from Roswell, GA. Their movers arrived 3 hours late, although I did receive a call at the last minute. Though paid to pack, the boxes packed by Zen appeared to be randomly packed, and though numbered, I never saw a list of what each box was. The loaders left behind my sofa and had to return.

When I secured a residence upon arrival, I called their offices at 2pm your time on Saturday, June 28th to schedule the delivery. Although your office was open for business and had 3 hours to go before closing, I received no return call. I called again on Monday, June 30, and was told by Paul Bedi he would get back to me on Tuesday, maybe Wednesday, with the delivery dates. I called Wednesday, and was told the delivery had not yet been scheduled, but it would be finalized on Thursday, July 3. I did not receive a return call on July 3, even though I called and left a message within the hours the answering message indicated the business operated.

When I did finally get to speak to Paul Bedi, I was given a THREE day window for delivery (July 8, 9, or 10), but was assured it would be clarified early in the next week. By the way, I drove cross country in three days' time. I spoke to Paul again on Monday and was told it would be either Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. I asked specifically for Thursday morning, since I had to be able to let the client I am working with (I am a contractor) know ahead of time when I would be out. Paul assured me this would work out very well for Zen as well, and I was assured the driver and crew would be there on Thursday. I was told to expect to hear from the driver.

The driver did not call until 10:15 Thursday morning, letting me know he was stopped for fuel in Boron, CA. Boron is 370 miles from my residence; he was at least a 6 to 7 hour drive away, meaning his delivery would not be remotely close to the agreed upon time. Thus, I lost a day's wages for absolutely no reason. Zen's position was, basically, that's too bad but they did not intend to do anything to ameliorate losses created by their inability to perform. The delivery for Thursday morning can be verified by the local moving company in Sacramento sub-contracted to unload the truck.

Thursday night, about 8:30, I received a call from the company that Zen subcontracted to unload the truck. At that point, I was already exhausted, and asked them to bring it in the morning. Even had they delivered, it would have been well after midnight on Friday morning before the job would be completed, and I would have missed work Friday anyway.

Upon inspecting the property I had moved, I discovered a part of my bedframe was missing (I have had to purchase another frame). My washing machine has a broken knob which now makes it difficult to use. I have one table that has been ruined (a brand new rolling table I use as a desk for a laptop). I am unable to locate an emergency radio, and a few pieces of computer equipment (specifically, a router is missing, and another has been broken.) I am missing tool sets, answering machines, clocks, lamps, and other items. I asked the mover to check with their Las Vegas customer, and they have not done so to my knowledge.

On my dining room table, paper is glued to one spot. One pet cage has been broken and is unusable. An office chair had a wheel broken. An HDTV will no longer come on. This is cursory, as far as damage goes. I have not yet gone through most of the boxes because my health makes progress slow.

I filed complaints with the DOT, and the Better Business Bureau in Atlanta . There is absolutely no point at which Zen performed in a manner consistent with good business practices. Zen has made it a habit to fail to return calls, to fail to be in contact at times they promised, and failed to deliver in a timely manner as promised. They have absolutely refused to make good on lost wages that were incurred due to their incompetence and lack of communication; their driver knew the DOT had pulled him off the road, but he did not notify the company or me (though he had my phone number) until late morning on July 10.

This has been a wretched effort on the part of Zen, and it should be seen as an embarrassment in an industry which people already hold great mistrust. In the case of Zen, that mistrust is well earned.
