Refusal to honor contract
We made a purchase through BJ's for a 47" HDTV which advertised free recycling of our old TV. Upon placing our order we were instructed to use Zip Installation and they would honor the free recycling as per their business arrangement with BJ's. From the start we met with resistance about removing the old TV. When placing the order and about to pay for the services, we noted that they billed us for recycling our old TV, inspite of the fact that the free removal had already been well-discussed beforehand. During the placement of our order, we included the measurements and approximate weight of the old TV. On the day of installation, they sent one person to do the entire job (47" HDTV to a second floor, wall-mounting, removing a bulky heavy tv, etc) and we knew right-off that ZIP had NO intention of honoring the tv removal. ZIP used every excuse and lie possible to try to get out of removing the old tv, from lying and claiming we didn't give them measurements (done during ordering), claim that it was physically impossible due to the narrow hallway (odd since this wasn't an issue when the first TV was delivered), even that it was our fault because we rescheduled (so in spite of our paying full price, we weren't entitled to full service?) ZIP was advised fom the jump that it would take 2 people to remove the TV, and we were never told 'oh btw, since you've rescheduled, we're taking away some of the services" They even had the installer put in a wall shelf, and decided that this was fair exchange..it might have actually worked except we paid the installer extra for putting in the shelf. In the end they had the arrogance to expect us not to inform BJ's of what they did. BJ's in all fairness tried to rectify the issue. All they needed to hear was that ZIP didn't remove the old TV, they said ZIP had no business bartering or coming up with excuses, it was a contract and they didn't honor it. ZIP was immediately advised to make arrangements to come back and remove the old TV, no excuses etc. ZIP was furious that we informed BJ's and was very nasty on the phone. They made an appt to get the TV, never showed, made a couple of lame phone calls that they would let us know when "their guy would be in the area"...and that was the end of that. My wife decided that she didn't want them back on the premises, they were given 3 months to rectify the situation, which was more than enough time. We have lodged a complaint and have advised at all costs to stay away from ZIP Installations. Joe G.
