After 10 years of marriage, my husband and I were finally able to purchase our first home in a gut rehab on the southside of Chicago. We were so proud to finally become homeowners and give our daughter something to look up to. We were the 3rd family to move into our condo unit in November 2006. At closing, we were told that our underground parking would be ready in 30 days. We were okay with that.

After 30 days, the parking was not ready and every 30 days we were told 30 more days...Well now it's the end of June and I still do not have the garage space that I pay for in my mortgage every month. At the end of March my husband and I planned a meeting with our neighbors because in addition to the parking issues, ther were common area issues that the developer had not addressed and our management company did not return calls. The owner of Christine Louis got wind of the meeting and against our wishes decided to come to the meeting. During this meeting [name removed] was very defensive and did not address our issues in a fair manner. Instead he managed to anger us further. Our main complaints were that we did not have all amenities that were advertised such as garage, security cameras, secure security door, buzzer system, lights were out on the side of the building for residents that purchased parking on side of the building. Also, our garbage dumpster is located on the side of the building where there are no lights. We've also had issues because ComEd has not properly wired our development-we have no meters.

2 weeks ago the external power wires to the building melted and the entire development was without power for 23 hours. Several homeowners had repair issues in the individual units, so after many complaints a date was set up to complete the necessary repairs. Unfortunately, the contractors have been on vacation for the last 2 weeks and left work half completed. I have spackle on my walls from where they started to repair nail pops. Also a chef complaint in most units was that we have crown molding throughout our units and the rounded parts around the bay windows is very choppy.

During the repair, white caulk was used-no wood putty or sanding was done. It actually looks worse. Considering that my husband and I paid $337, 000 for our 3 bedroom unit-this is an outrage! The name of our development is Drexel Commons, located on 47th and Drexel Blvd. This is an up and coming area close to where the Olympics will be held if Chicago is chosen...I would think the residents of Drexel Commons should definitely get some assistance from the media... All we want is a little pressure placed onto the developer(Christine Louis) to make the contractor(MD Brothers) complete the work that we were told would be done. This is in writing and technically false advertisement.
