Automatic Renwal
I had the "automatic renewal" recently charged to my card for $39 after my previous one year membeship was 9.95 and the card they charged to had the wrong expiration date. I don't recall ever selecting an automatic renewal selection nor do I recall getting a notice about it. I have now had to file a dispute with my credit card company and have read many other similar complaints.

Unauthorized billing
Classmates.com after years of constantly barraging my email with spam, finally coerced me to become a “gold" member for a price of $9.95. I made the payment and kept the credit card on file believing, as stated in my “Account Info" that I would be charged $9.95 the successive years. However, after one year membership they charged me for $39 without my approval, then when I went back to investigate my “account" settings, the monetary amount for membership had been changed to reflect their theft for the amount stolen from my account. When I inquired via their customer service, they stated it was under my membership services contract I agreed by submitting payment in the first place. I was blindsided by this since indeed the statement within membership services had changed. Hopefully my bank will stop payment.

Unauthorized charges
Three years ago I joined Classmates.com on a 1 year manually renewed membership. I was dissatisfied with their service and did not plan to renew. I went to their website to make sure my membership was canceled whereupon they pulled their deception, they offered me a two year GOLD membership for 1/2 price and promised I would be much more satisfied with that membership.
Was I ever a sucker! I thought 'oh what the heck' for 1/2 price for two years and they say it is better...why not!
Well it was not better...same old webpage with 90 million ads and pop ups on it, which made it very slow to load even with broadband. I had decided that the next time they approached me I was definitely going to cancel, and I wondered why they had not contacted me. I thought that perhaps I had forgotten my renewal date and perhaps they would contact me this month!
I went to my credit card website for an entirely different purpose and that is when I noticed they had automatically billed me for another 2 years...
That is about as deceptive as you can get, especially when you consider that I am legally blind and can't read that fine print anyway!
I just want to get this out to the general public so someone else won't get cheated like I did!

Fraud
I was lured into classmates by receiving email from them claiming someone was trying to get in touch with me. I signed up for a year at $9.95. No one was trying to get in touch with me by the way. Just recently I read about how they would charge your card $39.00 with the automatic renewal. I was not happy to hear that 1.)They would charge my card with prior approval and 2.)They would increase the yearly rate by 4 times. I immediately went out and changed my account and took off the automatic renewal and guess what they did...They charged my card that day for another years membership. I have contacted them multiple times to no avail. I have well documented proof that I notified them before the renewal and they charged me anyway. Now they are sending me email telling me that they are sorry but it's to my benefit that they charged me and that they are making the site more fun for me.

AP9 PrivacyMatters
I quickly called my credit card company to dispute the $19.95 charge from this company because I did not authorize it. While AP9 is indeed a legitimate company, it is like a sneaky leech or parasite with online companies you DO do business with. For example, I did purchase a membership with Classmates.com - unbeknownst to me - this identity protection service was attached for a "trial" period.
My credit card rep initiated a conference call with an AP9 rep and the charge was instantly removed - NO HASSLE! Apparently this happens quite often without the consumer's knowledge.

Automatic renewal
Has anyone been charged with a membership automatic fee withdrawal from their banks by classmates.com? I signed up for the $20.00 life time membership at classmates.com for $20.00. Life time was not life time. They have now charged me for a gold membership at $39.00 a year. I have asked them to cancel the same day they stole my money and to refund my $39.00 so far they have refused. They say it is non refundable. I intend to fight it. BEWARE I have canceled my membership. They refused to let me do that say it is good till Dec. 2009.HELP
They are ripping people off.

Unauthorized billing
I signed up for a 3 month membership. At the end of the 3 months, they signed me up for another membership. We exchanged some emails, but it boils down to this. They say I agreed to let them auto renew the membership and they are not going to return the money. We should begin urging Congress to stop this deceptive practice. Classmates.com could have included anything in their fine print, but the spirit of the agreement was a one-time 3 month deal and nothing else. Reputable companies like GoDaddy.com advises you numerous times that a membership is going to be auto-renewed and give you many opportunites to opt out. There should be a law making prior notification a mandatory practice.

Unautorized Credit Charges
This company is absolutely the WORST company ever to deal with! I signed up a year ago but specifically checked to make sure that they were not going to automatically take any fees from me! This morning, I noticed that they DID automatically renew my membership! I cancelled immediately and called them to have them credit my account back. They refused, saying I agreed to the automatic withdrawl, which I KNOW I DID NOT!! Most companies will just cancel and refund your fee. This comapny is nothing but a scam! I thought they were reputable...pft! Not in the least!
