charges
I am actually complaining about 2 websites that just automatically took money out of my account without authorization. Classmates.com and Norton Anti Virus.
This is unethical when you trust someone with your account information for previous charges to just asssume because you didn't get back to them that it is ok to take money out of your account for renewal fees. Alot of time I just don't have the time to read every email which is what they are banking on ( literally). Unless they get a positive response from me about a renewal they should not just automatically assume that they can take my money. Because of this assumption my account was charged and some small bills I needed to pay where comprised! I am really unhappy about this and now I have to wait for a refund!

over billing
classmates.com solicited me for membership with their company on 5/4/10. the advertised price that I entered was changed from $2.69 to $59.00. classmates.com fleeced my checking/debit account and refuse to answer their phone. Be very careful on this site, they cost us 6 months of billing to two additional sites at $19.95 per. At least thats where MVQ claims they got the information from. I went back to the site and cant seem to find any opt in authorizing use of the credit card for other billing.

Requested cancellation of membership in classmates, several months ago, have gone unheeded and unauthorized charges still appearing on my charge card.

automatic billing
Please be careful with the Gold Membership with Classmates.com. They gave me a special deal last year and you have to sign up for automatic renewal. You are allowed to go back in and change it to manual which I did. Somehow, it got changed back and they charged my credit card $39.00. They will not refund your money back either so you will have to post a dispute with your credit card company. I feel like this is the reason they want you to sign the automatic renewal. How do they keep staying in business when they do this?

CHANGED TO AUTO-DRAFT
THIS COMPANY IS WITHOUT ETHICS! I HAD AN ACCOUNT FOR $19.99 FOR A YEAR, I WAS AUTO CHARGED THE FOLLOWING YEAR, AS SOON AS I REALIZED I CALLED THE COMPANY. THEY INFORMED ME THAT WHEN I SIGNED UP I WAS AUTOMATICALLY AGREEING TO BE "AUTO-RENEWED" AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO ABOUT IT. I THEN CHANGED MY ACCOUNT TO MANUAL. THEY CHANGED IT TO "AUTO RENEW", WHEN I CALLED THIS TIME THEY TOLD ME TO READ THE AGREEMENT AND I HAD IT ON AUTO-RENEWAL. I ARGUED WITH THEM AND CALLED MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY. THEN I WENT TO "MY ACCOUNT" AND MADE SURE TO REMOVE MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A ONE TIME MISTAKE AND I WOULD JUST LEARN FROM IT.
NOW THEY'VE DONE THE EXACT SAME THING TO MY SON... CHANGING HIS FROM MANUAL TO AUTO!!! I KNOW IT WAS MANUAL BECAUSE I WAS THERE WHEN HE SET UP HIS ACCOUNT, I MADE SURE IT WAS ON MANUAL. THEY NOT ONLY CHARGED HIS ACCOUNT BUT THEY CHARGED $39.99!!! AN AMOUNT I HAVE NEVER SEEN OFFERED!! I'M FURIOUS BECAUSE DISCOVER SAID THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE AND NOW REFUSES TO REFUND!!

unauthorized charges
I was charged for another year on my credit card without my knowledge. They claim when I first signed up it was to be an automatic charge until I cancelled, yet they cannot provide me with any paperwork confirming that. I can't believe they would not send a renewal form just in case you didn't want to continue to use the website. When I called them, I was told the renewal could not be refunded no way, no how. I told them after seeing over 900 complaints on the internet they should maybe change their policies.
I have filed a complaints with the BBB & Consumer Affairs. As far as I'm concerned the website is a complete waste of time. I really didn't use much and feel all it is is a scam to get your money.

paid dues but not activated
I paid my $9.95 dues with my MC on 12/06/09 and cannot view on classmates.com. $9.95 has been deducted from my MC account on the above date.
