In 2008 my husband and I bought a timeshare on Ambergris Caye, Belize at Reef Village Resort, controlled and owned by Grand Crowne Resort, Missouri. We were at the few last payments of our contract and we would be paid in full. When we asked Reef Village to give us the total we owed, Ana Cruz said we still owed another $3500.00 dollars. This store is a high pressure sales machine that is hawked repeatedly by Carnival Cruise Lines personnel. Carnival, incidentally, owns Diamonds International, so that should be a reason to be wary of DI and maybe also Carnival. At that airport they acted very suspicious with us, sent us to the next building over to have a drink, and tried to get us to take a plane on a flight separate from our luggage. In June a group of friends and my family went to the Moorings in Belize for a charter. We had wanted to sail legendary cays of Belize. I am a lifelong sailor having sailed much of the South Pacific in my own sailboat. We chose the Moorings as they had generally a good reputation and had a good presence in Belize according to reports. The charter was a nightmare and we unilaterally terminated it early.
