We purchased trip delay insurance from travel guard prior to our trip to Rome. We arrived at the airport on 12/24 and due to very very bad weather in Amsterdamn, we we not allowed to travel. We had to spend the night in Seattle and incur hotel bills, cabs, and phone expenses. We also had a pre-paid room in Rome that was non refundable. We sumbitted a claim for reasonable expenses which total $350 dollars. After 8 weeks of back and forth, them coming up with many many poor excuses, the sent me a check fo $76. We realized this was some distance from the airport and called the hotel to confirm the location. We asked if they offered shuttle service to the airport since we were departing the next morning. My husband and I booked our hotel transfers through Cheaptickets which uses GrayLine as the local representative in Cancun. We did not find a rep. Holding a sign as we exited the airport. I booked a trip to Thailand with this rip off company. When I booked, the hotels that they claimed we'd be staying in were fantastic, very upscale, 4Star - which made sense considering the $3, 000 price tag (airfare not included). This company scammed me into signing a timeshare contract 5 years ago that I have never used. They showed me the best hotel suites in the Wyndam (in Nassau, Bahamas) and told me I would be able to have a hotel room like this one, if I signed on. Word of warning about booking a Thompson cruise holiday. My wife and I booked cruise for next September 2011 and Thompson wrote to us and said a number of the destinations had been changed and would not be visited in 2011. The holiday was booked with private car transfers to and from the hotel with the Aitken Spence group. The vehicle that collected us from the airport was an old dirty minibus, being a taxi driver here in the UK it would not have even passed the licensing test. This company is trying to sell vacation certifcates to their clients which is illegal to do. Even on the certificates themselves it states that they are not to be used for sale. These companies get these certificates through fulfilment companies, which are meant as tool to create leads. The fulfilment of these certificates is only about 5% and on the average cost under $5.00.. Example if you want a certificate for a 3 day 2 night vacation it only cost $1.50. If you want a 5 night cruise for 2 it only cost $ 18.00. I hope Vacation Selects Services fulfilment company gets wind of them illegally selling these certificates to the consumer. I just came from Abu Dhabi to New York by flight#EY101 on 13t Feb 2011.
